Crystallized sugar/rock candy sort of aroma that comes through into the flavor as well. Caramel malt flavors in there. Sweetness up front and a hoppy bitterness as it finishes. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 26, 2007 Caramel color with a small, tan head. Aroma of sweet carmalized malts, chocolate, burnt, biscuit, and some wood. Body is a little watery. Slightly roasted malts, sweet caramel, chocolate, and a little oak. Finish is malty, bitter, and kinda short. A decent brown, but nothing too exciting here. RSRIZZO (1362), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Oct 10, 2007 Had this beer on 6/5/2000. Aroma is a slightly sour burnt malt scent. Carbonation is out of control with way too much head. Color is a rich brown. Taste is a mild roasted malt flavor. Starting with a mild medium body it goes down with a smooth roasted malt flavor coming on. Finish is this malt flavor getting a bit stronger and backed by a light bitterness. I feel the carbonation is too high and flavor is a little lacking. dwedin (238), Portland, Oregon, USA

While not too overly harsh on the palate it had good notes of caramel and a slight coffee taste.... wasn’t too impressed though as it reminded me of several run of the mill nut browns I had drinkin in the past years.... so for this it wasn’t too original and didn’t stand out above the rest TomDecapolis (3150), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA

Pours a brownish amber with a medium off white creamy head that left some lacing. Aroma of nuts, toasted malts, some light coffee and cereal grains. Flavor of teh same, some nice hop bitterness with your classic brown ale characteristics. bhensonb (4248), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 4, 2007 Malty, caramelly aroma. Dark reddish color, like it’s almost opaque. Beige head. It didn’t leave, but it didn’t lace. A bit thin bodied. Caramel sweet. A hint of citrus sour. Kind of grotty, like dirt and mushrooms have been here. The finish is sort of dirt. Not a lot of bitter. It will do. Newcastle Brown it’s not. Good. Just a bit too smooth for the grotty characteristics. A contradictory sort of brown, which makes it unique? Hey, it’s very, very drinkable.
