Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale sports abundant yet graceful portions of pale and specialty malts, balancing caramel sweetness with a roasted malt character. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is a bit bold but beautifully balanced. That Kodiak Brown Ale is our most popular beer says something about the adventuous spirit found in Alaska. But we are not surprised; we know Alaskans are not afraid of the dark.

22oz - Clear dark ruby tinted brown with a massive cap of sandy brown frothyness. Patchy thick rings of sheeting lace. Aroma is roasted, nutty, coffee, caramel, and cocoa with nice touches of clean maple syrup and brown sugar. Taste is of toasted caramel and breads with inlays of peanuts and very light coffeeish hints. A bit of sweetness interludes the front and middle with a bit of red apple and malt laden starchyness. Light dry finish is kept well with very interesting little nuances of brown sugar, maple, and airy toasted stuff. Nice subtle play between the sweeter caramel and airy toastyness. Feel is about medium with a solid carbonation for a brown. Nice airy frothyness and malty creamyness to it. Finish is great. Airy, dry, complexingly subtle, and fun to behold. A pretty solid brown. One of the better ones I’ve had.

Another bottle I ordered from Vintage I wanted from the state of Alaska. Kodiak Brown is very good. Good malt and well balanced hops. I am really intriqued and very interested in acquiring as much Midnight Sun as I can get my hands on. Great Beer!!! Just wish it didn’t take so much time to bring this hidden gem home. I’ve decided I’m going to need to live in about 20 states during the rest of my life so I can take advantage of all the great breweries. Somedays you just feel like you’re missing out on something. Until you’ve had it you’ll never know.

Tastes like a Nut Brown Ale. Very similar to me like Newcastle. Nice, solid cocoa taste with light coffee.

definite malt smell for the aroma while it had a thick carmel head. The taste was sweet with a hint of hops and malt flavoring. Nice brown.

22 oz. brown bomber bottle. Bottled the first week of December, 2003. Poured out a medium brown color, with some red highlights. Tan head faded slowly to a ring of foamy bubbles around the rim of the glass. Aromas are of fresh malts, some chocolate notes as well. The hops make an all too brief appearance, but their taste lingers awhile. Strong malt backbone carries this beer very well. I was somewhat surprized that a brown ale could be so tasty. Slightly chewy mouthfeel leaves you wanting more. A really well made beer from Midnight Sun Brewing. Worth seeking out if you haven't tried it yet.

Very nice medium tan head.Malty sweet aroma, bread like and faintly yeasty.Dark brown color but not to the point of being opaque.Coffee, mild dark chocolate and malt in the flavor,Slight nut tone to it as well.Medium sweet with an after taste of malt, chocolate, coffee and the faint but present hint of hops.Pretty decent brew IMO makes me wish i was in Alaska now.

Dark ruby color with a moderate head. Nice nutty malt aroma. A rich creamy ale with lots of malt, a fair amount of nutieness and slightly bitter. A little too sweet, but still the best nut ale I have ever had.
