Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale sports abundant yet graceful portions of pale and specialty malts, balancing caramel sweetness with a roasted malt character. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is a bit bold but beautifully balanced. That Kodiak Brown Ale is our most popular beer says something about the adventuous spirit found in Alaska. But we are not surprised; we know Alaskans are not afraid of the dark.

Pours clear brown with a thick and fluffy off-white head. Meidum body and carbonation. Brown sugar, chocolate and roased nuts in the aroma and taste. Dry finish. A nice brown ale, kinda hits the spot for me.

Bottle courtesy od tpd975. Pours a clear brown with a one finger light tan head. Light aroma of sweet malt, caramel, toffee, and light roast. Taste is the same as aroma with a touch of dark fruit. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. Good.

Pours very dark ebony with red hues at the edges and a thin tan head. Nutty chocolate up front, dry and a funky bitter finish with cocoa lingering off in the aftertaste. The beer starts with a nice roastiness, but the finish was thin on flavor and didn’t have enough malt depth to really win me over, just so-so.

Amazingly smooth. Buttery. Great malt and lacing beautiful color and creamy head. Amazingly made but something small overall come up short keeping it from a higher score. A wonderful brown ale.

Purchased online from Bottletrek, poured into a Duvel tulip. Appearance is a dark rich brown with amber highlights, frothy tan head mostly sustains, thick lacing on the glass. Smell is roasty sweet malts with a dominating tone of nuttiness, some hints of cocoa/coffee, dark fruits, molasses, alcohol. Taste is good for the style, caramel and roast malts complimented by the nutty overtones, some sourness and light cocoa creep in towards the middle, finishes with the nuts and malts. Mouthfeel is light/medium-bodied, creamy smooth texture borders on watered down and thin, low carbonation. Drinkability is moderate, a fairly pedestrian example of the style, no major flaws but nothing tantalizing to warrant a repeat tasting, there are better Browns out there for the money.
