COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The last in our 2007 Deadly Sin Beer series evokes deadly desire in men (and, OK, women too) with its dark Belgian character. It was aged for ONE year in bourbon oak barrels and infused with sour cherries & brettanomyces.

Pours brown. Nose is sweet malt, bourbon, spicy yeast, ripe fruit. Flavor is mild tartness, sweet toffee, hints of funk that I really had to search for. More bourbon and wood forward.

Brownish pour. Bourbon, cherries, vanilla, oak, brown sugar, tart apples, earthy funk and fruity esters. Flavor is really nice. Sweet bourbon, tart cherries, apples, funk from the brett, and finishes earthy and dry. Nice!!

Bottle at Logan’s Pre-GABF Party 2009. Thanks to the generous soul from Alaska, whoever he may be, that brought this but didn’t turn it over to the folks running the event, thereby allowing me to get a good few ounces of this stuff. Sweet, fruity, lightly tart aroma, evident chocolate and cherry, along with suggestions of roasty, espresso maltiness, earth, wood and some mild funk from the Brett, very complex and enjoyable. Dark, opaque red-brown color with a lasting, ivory head. Flavor is also gently tart and fruity, with a very good balance maintained through between the rich malty sweetness and drying effects of the yeast, with suggestions of dark chocolate, oak, cherry, vanilla, some background yeast of both spicy and funk varieties, and gently warming alcohol fading through at the end. Some lingering Brett character late. Smoothly effervescent and full on the palate, body is generous. I had never heard of this prior to the tasting, and am now a little saddened to learn that my odds of running across it again are next to nothing. Extremely good.

Dark brown with a beige head. Lots of dark malts in the nose, some tart cherries, bourbon and some funky funk. Flavors of dark bread, oak, some bourbon barrel sweetness, some tart cherry, and an interesting dry funky finish. Tons of carbonation on this one as well. Interesting and nice.

Bottle… Pre-C&P’sLYFO ThrowdownThis beer rocks!… Pours murky and very dark with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Fantastic retention. The aroma is a hearty swirl of bourbon, chocolate and espresso. Medium to full-bodied and ultra creamy with tingly carbonation. The flavor presents dark, semi-sweet chocolate, wood and very warm bourbon. Lengthy, chocolaty, boozy finish. Thanks to Beerlando for sharing this world class beer with the guys at redlight redlight!

Big thanks to Tim for providing a beer I thought I would never have the opportunity to try. This completes my tasting of the 7 Deadly Sins beers. Pours dark reddish brown out of the bottle but settles almost completely black in the glass underneath a huge creamy tan head that leaves sheets of lacing and hangs on as a cap. The aroma has quite a few layers. There is the sweet tartness of the cherries with plenty of brown sugar and Belgian yeast underneath. There is a noticeable funkiness from the Brett though it’s definitely not dominating. The taste has an oaky bourbon presence up front that I couldn’t get in the nose. The sweet Belgian body is there in the background with lots of dark fruit, including cherries, on top. The finish is slightly smoky and with a faint tartness from the cherries. The funk is really minimal in the taste for me. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and super smooth with plenty of carbonation. The finish is definitely dry and shows the wood character. This is one of the more complex beers I’ve had recently and the taste is spectacular with all the competing flavors coming together almost perfectly. A great, great beer.

Courtesy Beerlando. Dark brown with dark red edges, a bit of off white carbonation. Very malt and barrel forward with the cherries and brett taking a back seat. I like the subtle cherries, but would have preferred more brett presence, although these combined with the barrel give the brew a very pleasant vinous character. Medium/full body, balanced carbonation, dry finish considering how malty this brew is. Another solid brew from MS, just wish their stuff was easier to get.
