COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark and full-bodied, Mammoth Extra Stout provides a cozy blanket of warm and fuzzy flavors, including chocolate, caramel, coffee and nut. Huge portions of pale and specialty malts give this mammoth brew a complex palate while hops provide well-rounded balance.

Any time of year, pair the robust flavors of Mammoth Extra Stout with slow-roasted, caramelized meats and vegetables. Or contrast the deep dark roast flavors of this wonderful brew with silky soups; creamy pasta dishes, cheesecake or crème brulee; or berry fruits, compotes and sauces.

DISCOVER THE WOOLLY ONE.

"kinda halfway between an extra stout and an imperial. highly roasted aroma, with a nice balance op hops, chcoolate and coffee. nice brew, but overpriced for what it is, like most of MS bottles."

Bottle served in a pint glass. Pours black with a good sized brown head. Good retention and nice lacing. Straight stout goodness. Not overly complex, but it is balanced and tasty. Light coffee, cocoa, roasted malts and resiny hops. Mid sweet, medium body and a long roasty and hop bitter finish. If they put this in a 6-pack it would rival the best stouts out there and become a commercial success.

Bottle, age unknown. Pours black with a bit of yellow/tan head. Aroma is faint coffee, cheese rind. Taste is hard to describe. Some sweetness from the malt, though its’ more about the chewy texture than the flavor as far as the malt goes. A bit of the hops coming through. Weird interplay with the two. Undecided. Will update once I’ve had another go-round.

Tap. Backlog of ratings. The look is black in color, dark, and has a tan head. The smell is roasty, chocolate, coffee, wood, and nice. The taste is toast, dark coffee, fruits, dessert, and chocolate.

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with thiin tan head, aroma brought notes of slight caramel, oxidized fruit, more veggie notes, herbal, slight coffee and roast. Taste is a mix of veggie, earth, slight grass, grain, hints of roast, lots of veggies, finishing bitter, dry. Ugh.

Bottle @ Armin’s apartment, courtesy of arminjewell. Pours a brown appearance with a foamy, dark brown head. Foamy, dark chocolate, light candy, s’more aroma. Vanilla, dark chocolate, coconut, a bit roasty, earthy, herbal, coffee flavor. Ok.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Created a thick 3 inches of fluffy head which looked like chocolate milk when you blow back and start creating a mess of bubbles. Aroma is putrid with a whiff of expired malts but somehow still allow for a scent of roasted down black malts that give off a hint of alcohol. The drink was initially tart and almost sour with sweet malts that have grown old and weary creating a stout that is a malty goopy mess but somehow still holds some roast flavor and a taste of old cold cheap cup of coffee. Flavor similar to the chocolate covered raisins. I have to rate this beer for what it is currently and not what it might have tasted about a year or two ago, so that’s why the scores are bit harsh.

Pours a dark brown close to black and leaves the same colored body with an off-white close to tan one finger head that dies within a minute giving some thick lacing that starts to spider web after a minute; the aroma has some dark roasted malts, an adequate amount of coffee and chocolate combined nicely; the flavoring is sweet at times and somewhat bitter at other times, sticky yet chocolatey aftertaste, dry finish; the palate is not as easy as some may think but hey who’s arguing this is a Foreign/Export stout so it lives up to its style - medium to heavy, close to a sipper, carbonation is exceptionally smooth for a foreign/export stout, it really feels very well done, alcohol is not felt on the mouth or tongue, overall - wow what a great beer, I’d have this again, probably one of the better ones by Midnight Sun

Rated in April 2012 (Backlog) - Black in color with a small off-white head. Aroma is heavy in roasted malts with coffee. Taste is the same.
