Commercial Description:
Dark and full-bodied, Mammoth Extra Stout boasts a well-rounded melange of rich flavors, including chocolate, caramel, coffee, nut and date. Huge portions of pale and specialty malts give this mammoth brew a complex yet exceptionally smooth palate. Hops provide balance without overpowering the chewy malt profile.

Mildish flavour; some toffee. Rather light, especially for frozen Alaska.

Bottle thanks to timmcd64: Pours a mostly opaque with dark mahogany edges. Aroma of toasted dark caramel malts with some bready doughy character and milk chocolate. Body starts with a decent dark caramel malty sweetness and a good balance of roasty chocolate and raisins with a touch of bready yeast. Finishes drier, toasty and bittersweet. A nice stout.

Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown to black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted, molasses, mild coffee, dark bread), moderately hoppy (resin, spruce, pine), with notes of red wine, clove, tar and raisin. Flavor is moderately acidic, moderately sweet. Finish is heavily acidic, lightly sweet. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The aroma was pleasant/interesting enough, but this is one sour beer. Could be from an infected batch, may re-rate someday.

Thanks JSquire for sharing the bottle. Pours to a deep brown with reddish and amber highlights, little head or lace. The aroma hints of molasses, caramel, mocha, coffee, currents, berries, floral hops and zesty yeast esters. The taste starts malty smooth with fruity undertones. A hoppy bite towards finish. Some coffee notes also detected. The mouthfeel is creamy and lively with a astringent touch. A good sort of sweet stout, just short in complexity and depth.

Big thanks to BrianK. Poured black with a tan head. Roasty malt aroma with sweet chocolate milk. The flavor also had a nice roast to it with some chocolate mixed in. No ash which I am happy to report. Lively CO2. Light to medium body.

Draft sample at the brewery 7/8/05: Interestingly brown head on this one. Little aroma, but a great little bitter edge ... grassy, almost grapey. Nice.

Bottle. Pours a black body with a tan head. Creamy coffee and light roast, a bit stale in terms of the coffee character. A bit nutty with caramel accents. Nice brew overall.
