COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chaotic yet hypnotic, Mayhem is a deliberate Double IPA, brewed and conditioned with a special Belgian yeast that contributes complexity and spice. Abundant American hops offer grapefruit, pine, must and mint, which play off the fullness and sweetness of pale malts then provide a biting yet enticing finish.

Mayhem Double IPA accents the complex spice combinations found in Thai, Indian, Cajun, Morrocan, Mexican and Southwest American cuisines as well as BBQ marinades, dry rubs and sauces.

Mayhem creates Mayhem.

Bottle, thanks to Curly. Pours hazy gold, thick persistent white head. Fantastic lacing. Nose is citrus hops, lemon and tangerine, fruity and lightly funky Belgian yeast notes. Flavours of tight pine and hop bitterness, mildly astringent. A pleasent beer, but frankly I had hoped for more considering Midnight Sunís reputation.

Bomber. Clear deep golden color, massive thick white head. I can smell the hops from across the room! Tons of citrus and bright pine. Taste is very bitter resin, dry finish. Too bitter for my taste.

Bomber from Ledgers. Nose is light pine, citrus, yeast, light cloves, and a hint of fruity sweetness. Cloudy urine yellow with a big pale yellow head that laces nicely. Flavor is bitter with contrasting light sweetness, combined with fruitiness. Finish is lingering bitterness.

Good ,in my opinion, for a Belgian style IPA which arenít my favorite. The hops have a nice citrus quality with a light malt backbone. The yeast doesnít sour it too much either.

22 oz. bottle from South Bay Drugs. Pours a cloudy, deep golden color with a finger-thick, super resilient, soft frothy head. Itís seriously one of the longest-lasting, pillowy heads Iíve ever seen on a beer. Aroma of floral hops, potpourri, perfume, herbs, lemongrass, wheat, bready malts, yeast, and just a little sweet fruit. Flavor of bitter floral hops, grass, copper, grapefruit peel, soap, mixed malts, and pine resin. Medium-bodied, with a bitter mouthfeel and carbonation that starts soft and finishes sharp. Lingering bitterness. After the really nice smell, this has such an odd bitterness that it sort of let me down. That said, it isnít horrible and the smell does help.

Bottle served in a tulip. Pours hazy dark orange with a medium-large white head of champagne-tight bubbles. Medium length retention and decent lacing. Aroma is Belgiany with light clove, corriander, and other spicy notes. Not detecting the big biting hops that a 100 IBU monster should carry. Maybe some caramel in there. Medium body, very creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Sweet flavor that quickly drys and ends bitter and yeasty. It has more balance than some Belgian IPAs, but I canít extract a great deal of complexity.

22oz bottle from Brewforia, bootlegged to Utah by Doug
Appearance: Slightly hazy golden with a huge frothy white head and nice sticky lacing
Aroma: Grapefruit and floral
Taste: Belgian yeast, sour grapefruit and bitter pine resin
Not a fan of Belgian yeast with American hops, they just donít compliment each other (IMHO)

Very nice very dry Belgian Ale. Yeah its hopped like an IPA, but is Piraat an IPA or a Belgian Strong Ale? Notes of grass, esters and wood. Finishes clean and dry.

650 ml bottle shared by Jordan. Pours a clear yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is sweet yeasty oranges. Lots of citrus in the flavor, some Belgian dry malts, dominant Belgian yeasts, but still very hoppy. Enjoyable.
