yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA May 24, 2009 Super dark with an off white head that fades fast. Aroma is great. Wood, vanilla, pumpkin. Taste is smooth, rich, and creamy. Nice spice balance and very sweet and delicious. Not much vegetable, pumpkin character. Some wood and creamy chocolate and vanilla taste too. Great! unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA May 10, 2008 22oz bottle. Pours dark brown. Light pumpkin aroma. Flavor is much more smooth than the non-Oaked version. Rich malt character. Much more balanced. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 10, 2008 Bottle, at BA Throwdown #2. Pours a very dark brown, creamy head, nice lacing. Very spicy nose, allspice, nutmeg, pumpkin, some woodsy notes. Spicy flavor, chocolate, pumpkin, some roast, big notes of allspice, cinnamon, some creamy vanilla. Creamy body, spicy, big roasty finish, medium body, and feels lighter with every sip. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 26, 2009 October ‘09 O-Town Throwdown, courtesy of BA trade.
Pours dark brown, off-white head.
Aroma of pumpkin, chocolate, spices; nutmeg, and bready, hints of oak.
Flavor, lots of pumpkin, now this is my idea of a pumpkin beer, chocolate malts with hints of bitterness. The barrel is present with a nice oak palate. Bready malts, medium carbonation, some spices; nutmeg, hints of cinnamon.
Everything about this beer is so well balanced. Tasty!
neepsntatties (281), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 17, 2009 Just tried the ’09 courtesy of my Anchorage connection. Colour... black as night with a lusciously dark tan head. Nose...bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, freshly ground nutmeg, a whisp of ginger, roasted cinderella pumpkin. Palate... more roasted pumpkin but with a dark brown sugar glaze, burnt cinnamon, allspice, dark, sweet chocolate, subdued oak, smooooooooth! Always like this expression better than the regular ICPP, but they’re both glorious brews! JohnC (2230), Mission Viejo, California, USA Sep 8, 2009 I really liked this beer. It pours very dark brown, nearly black with a two finger cocoa head. The aroma is of chocolate, oak & pumpkin. The mouthfeel is creamy. The flavor is a great combination of chocolate & pumpkin. yum!! hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Sep 21, 2009 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours tar-black with a small, creamy, well-tanned head. Excellent retention. The aroma is fantastic chocolaty decadence engulfed by autumn spices – cinnamon, clove, nutmeg – and real pumpkin with a woody, vanilla component that pushes my olfactory system way over the top. Not quite the aroma of CCB’s Good Gourde, but pretty darned close. Ultra full-bodied with a satiny mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. The flavor is luxuriant, sweet and buttery with notes of brown sugar, graham and cinnamon. Despite all the residual sugar, at no point does the taste become cloying… thanks to the time spent mellowing in oak and sufficient bitterness provided by carbonous black malt and aged hops. It’s like drinking a liquid S’more with a dab of pumpkin pie filling stuffed amongst the chocolate, marshmallow and graham cracker. Major kudos to ygtbsm94 for making it possible for me to try this world class pumpkin porter! AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Sep 11, 2009 Dark brown with a tan head. Big toasted wood aroma with pumpkin flesh, cocoa, sweet spices. Super smooth, rich mouthfeel. Fantastic flavors of rich, sweet chocolate, vanilla, malty spicy pumpkin pie, with some blackened malt bitterness to finish. Only Pumpkin brew better than this is a fresh draft pour of the un - oaked ICPP; looking forward to that next month.
