DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 3, 2007 Thanks to cbkschubert for this one. Pours hazy orangy coppery with 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of huge piney hops, grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, caramel malt. The aroms is huge and just delicious in this! Tastes resiny hoppy, with a firm caramel malt base, plus notes of pineapple, mango, black pepper, grapefruit, honeydew, and pine nuts. This one is outstanding. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Dec 2, 2007 Bottle. Hazy pale amber with an excellent rocky, sticky white head. Dank hop aroma with apricot, orange, pine and a little toasted malt. Very bitter. The most distinct hop flavors are orange and pine. Interesting hop formula that is fun to taste but not exactly harmonious. If the bitterness was dialed down a little, the soft malt and smooth hops resins would shine through brighter. Great beer. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 2, 2007 Poured from a 22 oz. bottle. Dull orange appearance; fairly murky, with a glassy, thin skin of white foam. Aroma suggests graham crackers and pears over a brilliantly dank wet meadow and cave mist; a delicate balance of toasty sweetness, citrus, and grassy bitterness. Darker, juicy sugars in black cherry and red grape; crusty burnt vanilla sugars and blonde brownie toward the end. The aroma is nearly perfect, and carefully balanced, at once soothing and arresting in its bitter and sweet punch. Taste brings the dank vegetal syrup of yerba mate, so strong as to brusquely force everything else aside; resiny, brash, and oily. Bitter citrus rind, rainy grass, and a bit of hamster cage must and wet wood; sweetness arrives in distant heather honey and orange form. The hops are so vibrant, wet, and outdoorsy that it’s hard to really disparage it for being somewhat one-dimensional; the silk of campfire smoke and pine forest rain is too soft and gorgeous to deny. Oily, medium to full bodied, and very green in the mouth. Quiet pistachio sweetness and aggressive, drying bitterness in the finish. The craft is not careful in any sense, but the result is no less satiating. Thanks for sharing, Ken! kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Dec 2, 2007 22oz bottle. Pours a bright, hazy golden-orange color; fluffy white head with solid retention and reasonable lacing. Very dense, chewy pine and citrus hoppiness with a solid candy sugar malt core. Slightly rough, full mouthfeel: enormous, chewy pine and citrus hoppiness, with a doughy and slight Belgian character appearing mid-palate; very dense and very giving in its bitterness, but I’m not really taken by the taste; lots of bitterness, a slightly intriguing Belgian core, but nothing very compelling and a bit astringent at the front. Lengthy, tongue-numbing citrus and pine in the finish; slightly dry. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Dec 2, 2007 Bottle provided by kmweaver. Hazy amber body with a medium sized white head. Big fresh hop nose with grapefruit, apricot, lightly catty, cotton candy and light pine. The flavor is lightly sweet, moderate/high chunky bitterness with cotton candy, bread, lots of grapefruit, tangerine, pithy orange and pine. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation and a bit of an astingent bitterness at the end. Bitterness is a bit brutal at times, but the nose is really nice. Pretty solid. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA Nov 30, 2007 Light amber orange, translucent body with a thin and well-retained white head. Thick sheets of lacing covers the inside of the glass. The nose is packed with floral notes and rests on a solid base of fresh citrus over top of a medium level of lightly toasty grains. Summit hops are so obvious it seems like they forgot to add the other stated varieties. Mild pepper and hay notes follow, as well as a light yeast note. Alcohol is prominent. The flavor is highly bitter and very astringent. The alcohol and bitterness team up to dry out the palate immediately and completely. Sweetness is mild and fruity. Resiny oils cover the tongue. The finish is dry, highly bitter and acidic. The mouthfeel is too thin and oily/watery thoughout each sip, but well-carbonated. Tasty but lacking any depth. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2007 Thanks Bobo. Poured a slightly hazy orange, almost copper color. Aroma is resinous hops, delicous. The alcohol is somewhat noticable, but not in anyway overdone. Slight peppery scent that I dig. Flavor is almost floral, jasmine tea initially comes to mind, the hops come into play yielding to a toasted malt component. I really like this beer. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Nov 30, 2007 Thanks to Tom for sharing! This is a really nice hop bomb. Pours a slight hazy light golden/ yellowish with a fluffy lasting tight white head and good lace. Tons of summit- spicy resinous orange and grapefruit zest- almsot peppery as well- more citrusy hops with tropical notes, some mango and catpiss as well, but not as much as the Wrath. Tons of zesty hop bitterness in the flavor- tropical fruits, resinous hops, lots of clean pine needles and grapefruit. Harsh tacky resinous bitterness- very nice.
