DrBayern (977), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA May 25, 2008 The fourth and final beer brought over by CelticBrew for our little mini-tasting of IPA’s with myself, Jim, and Doboy. This one was a deep orange/amber with a medium off white head and respectable lace. Fresh hoppy aroma that was grassy, floral, piney and citrusy. Not to be left out, the malt provided its contribution in the way of some sweet toffee.
Medium/full body and medium carbonation, smooth and clean palate. Starts off with a a lot of malty sweetness that lingers, tempered by a welcome grapefruit bitterness. Lengthy bitter finish is the icing on the cake. Matches up well with the Port 15 we had just moments before. If only every Saturday was like this!!
gator2683 (81), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Oct 11, 2008 dark amber color with a piney citruisy aroma. initially sweet malt with a couple different hop flavors dominating Taverner (490), San Ramon, California, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bomber thanks to AgentSteve. Almost a smoky, peat like flavor. Full of floral, piney resinous hops. Like drinking a pine cone - yum :) Nice caramel malt undertones. Excellent lacing. scrizzz (508), kirkland, Washington, USA Sep 23, 2008 Oily pine and orange aroma, resiny, sap. Orange haze, average head. Salty air up front, mangos and tropical qualities to the hops, a bit old and aged, not as bright as I’m sure it once was. Dry earthy finish. Schultsc (422), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jul 16, 2008 Medium-dark amber-gold with a thin white head. Aroma consists of a dark hops profile with apricot, pink grapefruit, some stonefruit, orange, and a touch of earth and spice over subtle malt characteristics. Flavor is is thick and densely bitter with spicy, earthy herbaceousness over a strong malt structure--not overly sweet but alcohol is present. Comes across quite strong in the body and is a touch out of balance. greenhorn1 (386), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jul 7, 2008 22 oz bottle. This is one great frickin’ IIPA. Pours hazy amber, big creamy head with a lot of lacing. Aroma of citrus and fresh hops. Flavor is similiar with a slight sweetness from the caramel malts and hints of pine. Oily mouthfeel, with a lingering bitter finish. I also like the fact that the alcohol is not insanely high, which makes this IIPA not to sweet and focuses more on the hoppiness. This is such a easy drinking beer. Great job MS.
