Commercial Description:
Obliteration IV Double Wheat Malt: Pale Two-row, Malted Wheat, Flaked Barley Hops: Amarillo, Simcoe, Chinook Dry Hops: Amarillo IBUs: 100 Internat’l Bittering Units ABV: 8.7% Alcohol By Volume With passion and purpose, we present this series of hop-centric beers. Using different hop varieties and brewing techniques, we aim to capture bold, distinct hop characteristics in aroma, flavor and finish. While we explore the world of hops, we invite you to learn along with us: these beers offer an incredible opportunity to experience the diversity of hops while engaging the palate and obliterating the senses. Obliteration IV is a tremendous Double Wheat beer. Its aroma is pungent with fragrant notes of citrus, spice, pine and alcohol. An even malt-to-wheat ratio provides a sturdy yet satisfying base for showcasing these high alpha-acid hops, creating flavors and textures that entice then intrigue. An American wheat beer yeast allows Obliteration IV to finish with unadulterated hop bitterness.

Bottle:   Vibrant amber yet slightly hazy, large rocky off-white head, very nice lacing, sticks around for a while.   Quite piney on the nose.   Hoppy, but the pine seems to dominate.   Resiny, citrus peel, with what I can best describe as the acidity of cat urine.   Its faint, but I smell it.   Not as strong on the tongue as I thought.   Hoppy, but not overly done.   Good malt base, slightly wheaty.   Could stand to be a bit maltier, but as is I would say this makes a great 1¾ IPA.   Not sure what it is, but over time all these HUGE IPAs seem not as big anymore.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Lingering citrus zest and hops.   The thing I like about this is that it is flavorful without being overly bitter.   Malts are good, well balanced, but could stand to be a smidgen more.   Expensive beer, but I think worth a shot.

Pours light orange with plenty of white head and lacing. Taste is bitter with an alcoholic bite. Bottle was old but this is the first wheat IPA I have tried.

Finally losing my Midnight Sun virginity! Pours a cloudy light orange with a thick, rocky, off-white head that leaves just excellent, thick lacing. Aroma is characteristic stale DIPA (that’s what I get for having to come from Anchorage to Portland and then to DC). Lots of strawberry cheesecake, cheap candies, green apple, overripe pears, blackberries. Taste is a bit watery but there is a massive hop bitterness in the finish, which changes to a long, dry, bitter aftertaste. As it warms the alcohol really shows through; almost a tinge of vodka in the aftertaste. Woah. But this is still surprisingly light bodied. I’m glad I tried it. Wheat DIPA is certainly difficult to find.

This bottled brew from JSquire a rating party poured a large sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a slightly hazy softly carbonated orange colored body. The aroma wasof mild hops. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of sharp yummy hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, orange-amber body with a lasting, medium-sized, white head that lefts generous rings of lace on the way down. Smell: Small base of light malts with some mild crackery hints crossed the nostrils before you’re besieged with sharp, stinging wafts of citric pith cooked in boiling resin, though there are some modest floral hints floating around in there, too. I think I can see where this one’s going to go. Taste: Lightly malted barley with a lesser degree of malted wheat and no more than a touch of sweetness. This all quickly derails into a particularly caustic hop profile with predominate tastes of citrus pith, tongue-blistering resin, finely-ground aspirin and a big, long bitterness. Some secondary flavors of grapefruit, lemon, and newly-mewn grass do very little to forestall my big, fat, frowny-face. Splash of warming alcohol. Finishes dry and bitter with one last dusting of Goody’s Headache Powder. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Some oily viscosity to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Thanks, but no thanks! It’s one of those Double IPAs that’s an embodiment of coarse, citric bitterness with few redeeming qualities to it. This one instantly brought to mind Stone’s 9th Anniversary, a beer I also didn’t care for with its excessively harsh Amarillo hop character.

Deep golden color out of the 22 oz bottle. Foamy off-white head. Soft apricot and citrus nose with noticable alcohol. Soft mouthfeel with flavors of manderin oranges, some pineapple and grapefruit. Very nice addition of wheat to an IPA.

22 oz. bottle - pours copper with thick white head; aromas of wheat, hops and lemons; really liked the nose with the fruity, bitter, wheat mix; drinks very bitter and a little harsh; floral and sweet, but flavors are a little strange and mildly metallic

Bomber. Pours a lightly hazy, dark orange-amber color. A thick, lasting head of beige colored foam leaves sticky, dense, patchwork sheets of lacing all over the glass. The aroma is bright and hoppy, yet balanced, with big orange, grapefruit, and pine resin notes being countered by a substantial wheat and toffee malt base. The flavor follows suit, strikingly sharp and bitter from all the floral citrus and resinous pine, yet deliciously countered by sweet, toasted toffee and glazed wheat grain. Big bodied and smooth, the palate shows a hint of an alcohol burn, particularly on the semi-dry, bitter finish. I didn’t get this one as fresh as I would have liked, but it was still damn good nonetheless.
