COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Obliteration IV is a tremendous Double Wheat beer. Its aroma is pungent with fragrant notes of citrus, spice, pine and alcohol. An even malt-to-wheat ratio provides a sturdy yet satisfying base for showcasing these high alpha-acid hops, creating flavors and textures that entice then intrigue. An American wheat beer yeast allows Obliteration IV to finish with unadulterated hop bitterness.

Bottle thanks to Blutt59. Flavor is pine, grass, and citrus. Prickly mouthful. Nose is "weedee" haha.

Light bronze, clean aroma of dusty pollen & summer. Hops are there, as an echo. Wish I had it fresh. Brash from a distance.

Soapy floral hops. Amber color, sudsy head. Peppery hop finish with mild bready malts not doing much. A bit on the lifeless side.

Bottle. Pours a clear honey gold / orange with a soft white head. Interesting nose, a soft mingling of hops, light fruit, and a light Belgian yeast. More bitter flavor than the nose suggests, especially in the back palate. Soft orange notes, some spice in the front. Lingering bitterness is a tad extreme. Some alcohol burning. Nice brew here though, pretty good stuff.

Have been really looking forward to it as I’m a hop head with a soft spot for wheat beers. This was bottles in the 3rd week of November so it has about 3.5 months on it. 22 oz bottle poured into my snifter. A- Perfect, IMO, for what a hoppy wheat should look like. Body is a translucent rusty amber hue that pours with a 2-3 finger foamy white head. Head eventually fades to 1/2 finger and has perfect retention from there. Lacing and film is left all the way down the glass. Cloudiness is very thick and between uniform and dynamic. Bubbles can be sen rising to the top (when held up to the light) and some cloudiness can be seen moving about the brew. S- The nose is hoppy and very sweet (maybe a little too sweet). Lots of grapefruit and citrus come through first but there is also a big sweet bready yeast in the background. The smell ends with a slight presence of phenols and big almost sugary sweetness added to the mix. T- The flavor upfront is somewhat mild and consists of a mild herbal and citrus hop presence with a big bready yeast backbone. The finish is mostly hop flavors with a smooth grapefruit and slightly aggressive hop bitterness emerging as well as a big bready sweetness. What is left to linger is a medium strength resiny hop bitterness and the impression of sweet bready yeast. P- Medium carbonation and medium weight body. Goes down easier but could be a lot smoother (as I am being picky). Could be more oily or more bready in order to do so. The hops add more of a crass, abruptness to the mouthfeel rather than oils. O- This is an awesome beer and I am glad to have tried it. This is my 4th IPA/wheat beer combo and it measures up just as well as the others. The ABV is virtually unnoticeable (though not super high) and that makes this beer all the more sneaky...because it appears sessionable. A great beer that may have been brighter when completely fresh...and I wish I lived in AK so that I could have experienced this. Still a great beer over all and something that I wish was a lot more easily accessible. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 03-11-2009 20:33:33

Bottle:   Vibrant amber yet slightly hazy, large rocky off-white head, very nice lacing, sticks around for a while.   Quite piney on the nose.   Hoppy, but the pine seems to dominate.   Resiny, citrus peel, with what I can best describe as the acidity of cat urine.   Its faint, but I smell it.   Not as strong on the tongue as I thought.   Hoppy, but not overly done.   Good malt base, slightly wheaty.   Could stand to be a bit maltier, but as is I would say this makes a great 1¾ IPA.   Not sure what it is, but over time all these HUGE IPAs seem not as big anymore.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Lingering citrus zest and hops.   The thing I like about this is that it is flavorful without being overly bitter.   Malts are good, well balanced, but could stand to be a smidgen more.   Expensive beer, but I think worth a shot.

Pours light orange with plenty of white head and lacing. Taste is bitter with an alcoholic bite. Bottle was old but this is the first wheat IPA I have tried.

22oz courtesy of tastybeer.

Finally losing my Midnight Sun virginity! Pours a cloudy light orange with a thick, rocky, off-white head that leaves just excellent, thick lacing. Aroma is characteristic stale DIPA (that’s what I get for having to come from Anchorage to Portland and then to DC). Lots of strawberry cheesecake, cheap candies, green apple, overripe pears, blackberries. Taste is a bit watery but there is a massive hop bitterness in the finish, which changes to a long, dry, bitter aftertaste. As it warms the alcohol really shows through; almost a tinge of vodka in the aftertaste. Woah. But this is still surprisingly light bodied. I’m glad I tried it. Wheat DIPA is certainly difficult to find.

This bottled brew from JSquire a rating party poured a large sized head of foamy white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a slightly hazy softly carbonated orange colored body. The aroma wasof mild hops. The crisp mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of sharp yummy hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Appearance: Pours out a lightly hazed, orange-amber body with a lasting, medium-sized, white head that lefts generous rings of lace on the way down. Smell: Small base of light malts with some mild crackery hints crossed the nostrils before you’re besieged with sharp, stinging wafts of citric pith cooked in boiling resin, though there are some modest floral hints floating around in there, too. I think I can see where this one’s going to go. Taste: Lightly malted barley with a lesser degree of malted wheat and no more than a touch of sweetness. This all quickly derails into a particularly caustic hop profile with predominate tastes of citrus pith, tongue-blistering resin, finely-ground aspirin and a big, long bitterness. Some secondary flavors of grapefruit, lemon, and newly-mewn grass do very little to forestall my big, fat, frowny-face. Splash of warming alcohol. Finishes dry and bitter with one last dusting of Goody’s Headache Powder. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Some oily viscosity to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Thanks, but no thanks! It’s one of those Double IPAs that’s an embodiment of coarse, citric bitterness with few redeeming qualities to it. This one instantly brought to mind Stone’s 9th Anniversary, a beer I also didn’t care for with its excessively harsh Amarillo hop character.

Deep golden color out of the 22 oz bottle. Foamy off-white head. Soft apricot and citrus nose with noticable alcohol. Soft mouthfeel with flavors of manderin oranges, some pineapple and grapefruit. Very nice addition of wheat to an IPA.
