BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA May 12, 2008 Pretty decent take on this style overall. The yeastiness is very prevalent, showing hints of bubblegum, clove and banana, with some fresh, zesty lemon acidity. A sweeter honey like cereal maltiness, well said below, a mostly American take with Bavarian undertones.
kmweaver (1949), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Aug 4, 2008 22oz bottle, courtesy of TomDecapolis, post-BCTC festivities. Thanks, Tom! Pours a hazy, bright pitty grapefruit color; thin off-white head with patchy lacing. Lots of bananas, soft cloves, and toasty Belgian sugars; slightly sticky, sweet hefe nose. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy bananas, cloves, and white pepper upfront; solid carbonation; lively presence in the mouth, mild acidity, and a touch of lightly acidic citrus; solid hefeweizen overall. Medium finish: toasty, bready, and light citrus; nicely toasty end. puzzl (1715), New York, New York, USA Aug 4, 2008 Bottle shared by TomDecapolis. Thanks! Clovely, cinnamon spice aroma with some wheat. Taste is robust wheat, a bit sweet, but having a very thin, overcarbonated body. Miver (378), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 3, 2008 Thanks to Tom for sharing this one. Poured a cloudy gold color with a medium sized white head. Aroma of wheat, cloves, with some fruity esters. Tastes of light banana, cloves, mild other spices. Not bad.. Dickinsonbeer (2513), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 Thanks to Tomdecapolis for sharing. Pours a nice hazy yellowish gold with an ok lasting head. Aroma is phenolic and estery- but not quite in balance, both are a bit overdone- clovey and pepery almost getting to a wit, but lot sof banana an dfruity esters as well- light doughy almost citris-like wheat malts. Light grassy flavor with more wheat and a slick phenolic mouthfeel- even some plasticy hints as well. Pretty off the mark for a traditional German Hefe. A rare miss for MS. gator2683 (71), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Jun 29, 2008 hazy gold with a frothy white head. grainy/fruity aroma. smooth and spicy, with a hint of banana ending a little dry
