COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed in July 2010 at Midnight Sun by City Beer Store owners Craig & Beth Wathen and our brew crew, Open Container was fermented with Wild AK yeasts then aged in Chardonnay oak barrels for several months. This very special 3-barrel batch honors eccentric West Coast brewing.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2013 Bottle courtesy of Pizzl. Pours a deep cloud of a human body. Aroma is tart fruit and sour tart yeast, lemons, light wine and funk. Mouthfeel is perfect with notes of tart fruit, pineapple, citrus, oak and lemon.

Bottle. Clear golden color with white head. Tart dry lemon peel, earthy, wet wood, dry hay aromas. Medium bodied with very soft carbonation. Dry hay, tart lemon, bready, grapefruit rind flavors with some wet wood, white wine, green apples___it’s good but nothing special.

22oz bomber shared by CaseyK. Thanks! Hazy yellow-tan body. Oily non-head. Very lactic, reminds me of Berliner Weisse. Mellow on the palate, but lots of lemony citrus. Mild, very one-dimensional. Mild carbonation, finishes a little watery for the style. Somewhere between a Berliner and a Sour. Nice.

22oz bottle. Pours pale yellow with barely a head that quickly fades to nothing. Aroma of pineapple, musty basement, citrus and oaky white wine. Flavor is very light with just a light sourness and tartness and faint hay and malt. Light body with low carbonation. I’ve had this many times throughout the years and have never really been that impressed. It really hasn’t changed that much but seems to be slowly going downhill, drink up.

Had this on 01/30/2013 at James’ apt. Thanks to whoever brought! Hazy yellow pour. Light, airy nose and palate; not consistently "sharp" but s our in waves, gentle and subtle, like a sour weiss. Very nice.

Pale straw, cloudy, dissipating white head. Dusty, earthy, lemon, dry cracker-like malt, tart fruit, berries, Chardonnay barrels evident. Pretty clean for a wild fermentation. Very drinkable, balanced, interesting wild ale.

UPDATED: APR 4, 2013 66cl bomber and 2010 vintage courtesy of 77ships. Thanks Eugène for cracking this AK gem open.

2010 Vintage. 655 ml. Bottle obtained in a trade with Miamilice, Split with Sebletitje & Antoine. Pours an odd murky sci-fi citrus yellow, dishwashing liquid, zero head – only some instantly gone bubbles. Nose is sweet peach Chardonnay, juicy, fruity, nice lactic sourness, very fruity and fruity sweet, pineapple, sweet fruity lemons, lightly tart,… Taste & nose the peaches remind a bit of Struise Axelle-Jeroen & the Chardonnay reminds of Anchorage Bitter Monk. Taste is sweet peaches & Chardonnay, lightly tart and lactic, lemony, fruity, barrel, touch sugar, lactic, pineapple, light sour, very lightly acetic. Fittingly flat and full bodied. A truly original and different American sour – sadly bit of a rarity – this one taste very delicious and different enough. Excellent.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity dry yeasty and slightly tart aroma. Fruity malty dry yeasty tart flavor. Has a fruity malty sour tart wine finish.

Bottle, compliments of Puzzl, thanks brah, been wanting to try this one. Pours orange gold with very thin lacing and head. Aromas are funky yeast, barrel, lemons, and some other citrus fruits. Taste is much of the same with a nice pineapple tasting sour finish. Light bodied. Pretty good for an American sour.
