imadeadguy (353), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA Jun 10, 2009 Sample from John. Pour is lighter copper/red with a frothy white head. Aromas of piney hops, citrus, and sweet malts. Flavor is full of hops. Pine, grapefruit, and caramel are all present. Nice brew here. robforbes (985), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jun 2, 2009 pours a clear copper with a red tint, a small off-white head, and good lacing.
smell of grapefruit, a touch of spice, caramel, nuts, and malt in the back.
taste is smooth up front, bitter in the back, sweet caramel, roasted malt, and lots of hops, has a clean finish and bitter. Ungstrup (13388), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 21, 2009 Bottled. An amber beer with a thin tan head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of hops and grass and a lighter touch of spices. The flavor is sweet and very spicy, leading to a dry finish. The body is on the light side. Thanks Papsoe for sharing. Aggy360 (62), Anchorage/ Vista,CA, Alaska, USA May 16, 2009 Growler, pours a clear reddish amber with a good two finger off white head. Piney hop nose. Taste of piney hops and some sweet malts. A good body a bit resiny. Not overly bitter, well balanced. A really good IPA overall. chicagodri (885), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 12, 2009 Bottle. Pours amber with a thick off white head that never seems to go away. Sweet aroma of citrus and grassy hops. Some nice bitterness in the flavor. Decent brew. scrizzz (986), kirkland, Washington, USA May 6, 2009 Clear amber, dense tight white head. Suggestive aroma of alder wood, though I’m sure I just have smoked salmon on the brain. Light aroma of caramel malt and hops. Still dry in the sip, fresh woodsy character with heavy hop presence, though not too intense. Increasingly aromatic and herbal in the finish. Grew on me more and more and gave it a couple extra ticks. trevor211 (384), Seattle, Washington, USA May 4, 2009 Pours really dark for an IPA. Ruddy bronze, with a smallish off-white head. The aroma has sweet, citrusy hops - so sweet it almost has a marshmallowy character. Creamy, with some oak as well. This is definitely one of the more unique IPAs I’ve ever had, and so far it isn’t bothering me a bit. There’s a slightly toasty, but very sweet note in there - think burnt marshmallows, or toffee / caramel. Some wood, with toasted hops right at the forefront. For something with this low of an ABV, it’s remarkably flavorful and full-bodied, and I’m really enjoying the sweetness that balances out the hops. Two thumbs up - this might be my favorite (non-double) IPA to date! fakepurseninja (705), Washington, USA May 1, 2009 Updated: May 15, 2009Crystal amber body with a soft white head. Light sweetness with marvelous floral hop character. Citrus, pine, and a slight grassy component make this an ideal-type NW IPA, one of the best I’ve had in quite sometime. Very refreshing and enjoyable.
Update - 5-15-09; Did not realize it until today but this was my 100th rated singleIPA. Great drink to mark the moment! Fan-fucking-tastic!
