Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with an average rocky off-white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, grain, meal), heavy hops (spruce, resin), average yeast (dough, soap) with notes of light alcohol, apple and pear. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity, heavy bitterness and minerals. Medium bodied, slick texture, soft carbonation and bitter finish.

I liked this but I could be biased as I would love to go to AK. Pours with a big substantial white head on a amber color beer. Strong hop aroma. A powerful taste, good bite, overall a good example.

This is simply one of the best beers produced in the state of Alaska. Alaska produces some extremely delicious beers, so that is no small compliment.

Bottle. Dated first week of June. Pours a clear dark garnet color with an off-white head. Malty aroma with a minty, eucalyptus type note to it. The flavor is a train wreck of flavors competing against each other for attention on my palate. It’s primarily malt forward with a metallic "sucking on pennies" flavor. There’s caramel, grapes, coffee, dust, fruit and tobacco but there just isn’t any balance to it. Maybe it’s too old or too young. This is the first disappointing beer I’ve ever had from midnight sun.

22 oz. bomber. Pours a deep dark red with a big foamy head. Aroma of grassy hops. Flavor was piney hops and bitterness balanced with malts to produce a delicious full flavored beer. Smooth, but with a nice bitter hop finish.

Thanks to MOM for bringing this back from Alaska! Nothing like mom hitting up the brewery’s for her kid on a trip!! Pours a nice dark ruby with good sized white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, hops, bread. Taste is piney with a real big bitter bite at the end. I love bitter beers, but this one wasn’t quite my style of bitter.

Bottle. Foggy dark copper body with a creamy large white head. Great aroma - orange resin, very hoppy, rye bread, and piney bitterness. Flavour leaves a bit to be desired in terms of complexity though . Big and chewy and kind of grows on you after a while. Abrasive bitterness towards the finish.

22 oz. bottle - Thanks to my mother-in-law for bringing this back from Alaska - Pour a deep amber color with a good size, long lasting, off white head which left lots of lacing as it settled. Lots of carbonation. Has a strong citrus (grapefruit) aroma. Nice. Has a citrus hop and light caramel malt flavor. Medium body. No unpleasant bitter aftertaste. Very nice beer.
