Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & mds -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy orange-brown with a small lasting white head. I love that aroma! Just a simple yet really pleasant smell of Cascade and Centennial hops with a sweet malt backing -- I couldn’t stop smelling it, I’m a sucker for these kind of hops. Flavour of aforementioned hops, sweet malt and some rye -- nicely balanced and with a long bitter finish. Medium bodied. This was a really nice surprise, I really liked it.

22 oz bottle. Just got this from Belmont Station two months ago, but the label is notched Dec ’02?? Pours with a huge head of light tan that settles very slowly into a crystal clear, medium amber beer. Soft pine and smooth malt aroma. Cookie dough and caramel. Smooth light body. Strongly bitter with just enough malt to hold this one up. A bit off balance.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy and mds, my bottle. Clear deep copper, decent off-white head. Lovely resiny hoppy aroma, perfumy and herbal and floral, sweet malt backing, hint of rye - very nice. Taste - nice rye malt, resiny hops, decent light balanced finish - session rye. Average body, light astringency, decent carbonation, medium finish - very very nice, could drink a few bombers of this.

Bomber, Liquid Solutions. Pours a dark maroon color with a mini mushroom cloud head. Skunk hop aroma, quite bitter. Bitter hoppiness righ up front with a hint of graininess. Moderate malt profile. Bitter grapefruit peel finish. Decent bitterness, but not really alot of balance.

Tasting at goldtwins 9/20/06 - Aroma of subtle floral hops with a citrus maltiness. Pours red brown with a decent head and lacing. Flavor is rusty water, sock, and citrus hops. Not a good combo. Palate is thin for an ipa. This didn’t do anything for me, but I’m jaded when it comes to hops.

Poured a clear dark amber color with a small beige head. Citrusy and caramel aroma but definitely hop foward. Hop bitterness in the flavor starts very quickly. Flavor of citrus and grapfruit pith. Moderately bitter finish.

Got in a recent package from LS to fill out the 12 bottle shipper. Pours out a reddish/ orange color with a medium sized lacing head. Aroma is of some citrus and floral hops with a note os some spice. Decent mouthfeel, balance was lacking somewhere. Hops domniate the flavor, but seem rather one dimentional in hop flavor.

Amber, ruby, thick white head, tons of lacing. Nose of light citrus and pine, some vegetal notes; centennial? The flavor is caramelly with lots of metallic notes and the basic dry hop and malt notes. Finishes similar, hmmm.
