Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

2003 bomber. Nice medium dark reddish-amber with some swirling oranges and dark golds. Bottle conditioned, humongous persistent sticky white head. Wonderfully resinous smell, very juicy and floral. Chinooks meld well with the cascades creating a hops aroma that is neither too dominant on spiciness or citrus. Flavor is equally juicy, bursting with hops, huge alpha content, floral, sweet and lightly toasty. Bitterness is high but well-balanced by malt. Very solid offering, nice change of pace back to the traditional American IPA (Ive been getting tired of fuggles lately). Lingering sweet, almost fruity finish and aftertaste. Low acidity, very creamy palate.
2004 bomber Still as good as I remember. There’s just something about Red IPAs and Double Reds that I really like, oh wait, it’s the balance. Imagine that. (I also like cascades and centennials, yes I’m boring).

Deep orange colour. Surprisingly lasting head given the amount of hop oil in this yummy creation. Another great, crazy label from the people at Midnight Sun. Strong hop smell. Sttrong hop taste. Lasting hop aftertaste. A great IPA.

Pours brown, not red. Floral hop smell does not translate into floral hop taste. Not bad, but not great.

Pours an orange amber with a nice head that leaves some lace. Smells of floral hops and a nice malt presence. Tastes nice and hoppy, Cascades are the most obvious with some others in there as well. It's offset with the malt but hops are certainly the main taste Mouthfeel is full and crisp. Drinkability is good as I'll try this one again. I'm looking forward to trying others from this brewery.

Surprising light ruby hue and diminishing creamy white head and very good lace. The aroma hints of pine, light grapefruit, lemon, toasted grains, clove and assorted sweet spices, zesty musty yeast esters, and a touch of wood. The taste has bitter hoppiness with a nice layer of malt balance. Undertones are herbal, grassy, and earthy. Citric bite on the finish but not overpowering. Additional tones of wood and spice. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, dry, astringent, and lively. A solid IPA but the bitterness lingers a tad too much without refreshing palate. Worth a try, grab one. Thanks JSquire for another brew from Alaska!

Orange red in appearance, large tan head that lasts nicely, good lacing. Grapefruit dominated aroma, quite juicy. Flavors are surprisingly roasty with orange and grapefruit flavors mingling with spruce notes. Tasty.

This bottle mentions that Uinta Brewing Company (Salt Lake City, UT) brewed this beer on behalf of Midnight Sun. Unusual dark red color for an IPA. Herbacious and hoppy aroma. Burnt hop flavor with a harsh bitter finish. Drinkable but nothing extraordinary.

Nice copper color, smallish head, hoppy floral nose. A malty citrus balanced the decent dose of hops. Not a run of the mill IPA but quite enjoyable.
