Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Shared by Jerc & Mabel with Blankboy, GregClow and I. Appearance: Red/pink colour with a large head. No visible carbonation. Aroma: Grapefruit, melon, mango, wonderful hop aroma. Flavour: Little less impressive flavour as compared to the aroma, it’s still good though. Hops, flowers and malt.

2009-01-16. Nice dark amber body with a modest beige head and lacing (3+). Rather nice hoppy aroma, light citrus, straw and resin up front that morphs into a sweeter greener resin. (7+) Flavour is similarly resiny with light citrus seeds, that get a touch astringent in the finish at first, but becomes more resiny as the glass goes on. (7+) Average plus palate. Pretty decent. Bottle from Brown Jug, Anchorage

Bottle. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruits, some spicy notes, basic sweet malt. Flavor the same, the malt side of things really didn’t do it for me, felt quite drab. Just decent.

Bottle: Opened with lots of gush- made a mess. Pours a slightly hazy copper with a thick creamy tan head that laces. The aroma is a mix of nutty crystal malt and spicy hops- sweet and husky with a citrus-spice background. Fairly light feel. The flavor encompasses grainy husky malt with a touch of roast that mingles with dark caramel, peppery, zesty orange, and lots of peanut skin flavor, followed by a long piny bitter finish. A solid IPA, on the malty side.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber with a thick off-white head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of perfumy floral hops and light tropical fruits (especially tangerine). Flavor of bitter grassy hops, bitter floral hops and lots of mango, tangerine, and orange fruits. Sweeter in the nose than in the taste. Quite enjoyable and tasty. A nice, fruity IPA.

OTH tasting 09/06/08. Pours copper with white head. The aroma has a nice load of pine hops, roasted to crystal malts and not really much else. But I don’t need much more. The malts and hops smell very nice. The taste starts dry with roasted malts being quickly followed by pine hop bitterness that peaks to midway. The taste ends somewhat like the way it started with some mildly dry roasted malts and lingering pine hop bitterness. Darn yummy this one.
