Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Bottle. Nice IPA, low on the alcohol and hops which is a nice change from the contemporary style.

On tap at the brewery July 11 and in a bomber July 12. IPAs are my style of choice and I only found one fault with this one. This is definitely a PNW style IPA, deep amber in color with the cascade hops evident. Initial nose of citrus hops and spent grain, with a nice bitter hop middle. I really liked it until the finish, which is the odd part...I got a strong aftertaste of bile. Not sure why. Will try again when I am able to and see if anything changes my mind.

Bomber. Pours a clear deep amber with 2 finger tan head and moderate lacing. Nose is citrus, floral hops and pine. Taste is all about the resiny pine. Not much malt flavor. A bit unbalanced but I like strong pine in an IPA so it’s all good. Medium mouth feel, decent IPA.

Bomber poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head leaving behind good lacing. Aromas of pine resin, carmel, earthiness, orange and grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. Flavors of carmel, pine, earthiness, tangerine and grapefruit peel with a smooth lightly dry lingering bitter finish.

Bottle. Papsoes MadsBerg homecoming blindtasting, bottle #22. Pours clear and golden orange to amber with a slowly collapsing light yellow head. Solid spiced and pinewood hops aroma. Flavour is dry hoppy with a mild to vague malt base. Rather thin body. Dry bitter finish with a mild citric note.
