Commercial Description:
Brewed in the bold spirit of Alaska, Sockeye Red IPA is a finely crafted Pacific Northwest-style India Pale Ale with a real bite. Ample pale two-row malt creates a fresh, firm body while specialty malts impart a spawning red hue. The predominant character of this fiesty catch comes from outlandish portions of Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe hops, giving this beer tremendous citrus and floral aroma and flavor. Determined and bitter but amazingly balanced, Sockeye Red is gnarly enough to take you hook, line and sinker. Forget about a bigger rig; grab a bigger glass.

Bottled at Papsoes Blind tasting 19th. June 2008 no 22: Amber coloured. Unclear. Off white head. Herbal, flowery and light piney aroma. Flavour is sweetish, herbal and has some caramelly notes. Medium bodied. Light bitter and sweet end. Is smooth and wellbalanced.

The Lure:
Soapy, perfumy oranges impart a flowery character to the hop aroma. A Gargantuan, lasting-head sports huge bubbles, sign of a zealous carbonation to come. Plenty of chunks float about, and this is not the bottom of the bottle.

The Festivities:
Grass blades ride the obese bubbles and reach their orange, resin and soapy hop friends with chalky, drying results. Malt is felt but not expressive enough, carbonation is overwhelming, and the mix of hops does not entice me to drink much of it.

Transcendence:
Walking near a megastore’s perfume section always hurts somewhat.

Pours amber with a finger length off white head. Smells of citrus and melon. Tastes floral and bitter with some sweetness on the finish.

Big cascade hop nose of flowers and fruit. Ruby red appearance. Taste resembles a cinnamon-IPA, with plums, red grapes, and cedar flavor as well. Thin bodied, but with a nice smoked wood profile. Would be great with slightly more citrus hop flavors.

Good hoppy drink. Like the reddish tone of the body, the bitter hop aroma, the bitter hoppy taste. I’d buy it if offered in the Chicago area.

Amber, ruby, thick white head, tons of lacing. Nose of light citrus and pine, some vegetal notes; centennial? The flavor is caramelly with lots of metallic notes and the basic dry hop and malt notes. Finishes similar, hmmm.

3.7 is WAY too low for this one. Thanks to BrooklynBoy for this. Pours dark copper with abig, creamy, off-white head and great lacing. Aroma of malt, hops, fruit, GIGANTIC strawberries (I’ve never smelled a beer that had as big a strawberry aroma). Tastes malty, hoppy, fruity, with a finishing blast of strawberry, florals, fruit, hops, malt, and caramel. Medium mouthfeel, and unrivaled complexity. This is part red ale, part IPA, and part fruit beer....with all parts being equally extraordinary.

Hazy orange ale with a thick creamy white head. Pinhey hops with stong sweet citrus aroma. Sweet honey hoppy beer with orangey notes. Rather overhopped in my taste, unbalanced. Medium bodied.
