Growler to oversized snifter (thanks mikem409). Looks good; pitch black with thin white lacing. Smells good too; roasty and molasses. Tastes solid; much like it smells, but a bit thin. Average on the palate. Good.

Dark black in color, clear with a thin head. Huge dark roast malt and light hops aroma. Nice flavor and smooth taste. This comes in at a light 8% but it is terrific. Being a second run this was a very tasty warm brew,
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neepsntatties (884) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JAN 18, 2011
Had this on tap at Midnight Sun about a year ago and forgot to rate it. Colour... essentially black with a thin tan head. Nose...dark chocolate, anise and vanillin. Palate...whoa! This is one velvety beer! Thick and creamy with plenty of roasty goodness, burnt caramel, wet earth, anise extract, maduro cigar and plenty of booze on the finish, esp. for only 8% ABV. This is a small beer?? I’d say that this is a GIANT among small beers!

On tap at the brewery. I saw Berker was on and got really excited, until I read more closely... Pours a roasted black color with a hearty brown head. Loaded with soy sauce -- almost overwhelmingly so -- along with notes of maple and dark fruit in the aroma and flavor.

Draft at Midnight Sun. Pours black with a thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and some tart cherry notes. Flavor is mostly roasted malts with some lactic notes and an ever-so-slight tartness. Pretty good for second runnings.
