Bottle from an old trade with michaelinwa. I think this is probably around 2 years old now. Black pour with an enormous pillowy head that fades very slowly to a thick film leaving great webbing. Aromas are dark chocolate, coconut, maple, light ash, vanilla, and espresso. Tastes more roasty than the aroma. Burnt toast, ash, roasted coffee, vanilla, and an odd wood bark/maple taste. That might be the birch syrup? Not much coconut at all. Probably faded away. A touch of booze in the finish. Fairly enjoyable but there’s something throwing it off. I’m guessing it’s the birch syrup but I don’t know what that’s supposed to taste like.

Poured a dark black color with aromas of roast, booze, light vanilla, a touch of coconut shavings, and some earth. Flavors were boozy, followed by roast, and light sweet coconut, quite enjoyable for a barrel aged porter.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2014 Bottle... darkguardian’s & biggsbowler’s West Palm Beach Birthday Bash!... Pours tar black with a small, creamy, khaki head. The nose is a mocha merger of medium-roast coffee beans and a 70% cacao chocolate bar. Medium to full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor furnishes deep roasted bitterness - espresso, tobacco, coal and dark chocolate. Finishes acrid, carbonic and burnt. Bottle courtesy of newcigarz!

Deep dark brown coloured body with some lighter cola coloured tints at the bottom, all with a very nice, three cnetimetre tall deep brown head. Aroma of alcohohl, earth, birch, maple, walnuts, raisins, plums, vanilla and some oak - very strong and very nice! Full-bodied; Super deep flavour of birch with a large malt backbone, some strong spices and even a light smokiness showing some malt and a ton of pit fruits on the end. Afteraste is just as complex as the initial taste with walnuts, pecans, rye and other grains, alcohol, oak all come together with a lot of sweetness, showing some chocolate and toffee at the end as well. Overall, a very complex beer with tons of flavours and a nice body to showcase that all! Great to sample, definitely get this if you can find it! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 23-May-2013 for US$11.50 sampled in my Midnight Sun tulip on 26-April-2014 as Rating #4499 (beer #1 of 3 for the 4500 rating!)

Bottle. Brown pour, with a light tan head. Roasted malt, ash, molasses, and light bourbon. Not much coconut at all. Sounds good, but this did not turn out that great.

Dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of baker’s chocolate, dried cherries, toasty notes, a little coconut, light bourbon. Flavor: bready malt, toffee, chocolate, molasses, dark fruit, birch syrup is hard to detect, toasted coconut is subtle, flavors are a little muddled.

Aroma is fairly sweet with a lot of chocolate notes along with some burnt sugar and caramel. Medium light coconut and bourbon character with light oak notes. I find the aroma fairly enjoyable though not as roasty as I would expect for a porter. Dark fruit notes of plum, cherry and fig become rather apparent as it warms. Pours an almost black with a fairly thick, dark mocha head with above average retention. Light lacing and mid sized legs. Flavor has a moderately high upfront sweetness but its balanced with a moderate roast character that the aroma did not have. Light bitter chocolate notes with some medium molasses notes and light bourbon character. There is a bit of a vegetal anise flavor present that is off putting. Medium bitterness with a touch of oak. Anise, roast and molasses linger in the finish. Some moderately strong dark fruit character as well - cherry, plum and prune. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low but present astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall I wish the flavor matched the aroma because this would have been a much better beer if it did. Th flavor has none of the coconut or chocolate which really helped shape the aroma.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown/black with a fizzy/creamy dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate and bourbon. Full bodied. Flavor is treacle, a little bourbon, followed by mild heat, followed by burnt malt and chocolate, followed by something sweet that could be coconut. Overall it finishes bourbon, mildly malty, chocolate, and something hoppy/bitter. Pretty good stuff. It took quite awhile, but finally toasted coconut came forth. Hardly ever get that!
