Smooth mouthfeel.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2013 Shared bottle with Timfoolery. Could definitely taste the cloves and the nutmeg. Just not as full flavored as I usually prefer. We thought it had gotten a little past its prime. Still a very solid beer.

Bottle (2011?) from a generous trader. Aroma and flavor of lighter version of TREAT, only nutmeg, clove, and slight pumpkin remains. A little past it's prime (and we probably shouldn't have had it before a stellar RareR DOS), I enjoyed it just the same. Stick to the fresh TREAT. It's better. Very good beer.

In short: A rich and creamy chocolaty porter with nice wood presence. Excellent dessert beer.
How: Bottle 22oz shared at post-HF Harvest 2012 party.
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head.
In long: Nose is chocolaty and moderately oaky with faint traces of bourbon. Taste is very chocolaty, creamy rich chocolate cake, good oak presence (lots of wood, not much bourbon), vanilla, light presence of the usual pumpkin beer spices (cinnamon, etc.). Creamy rich mouthfeel with an appropriate smooth carbonation. Not all different from what I remember of the base beer, just as chocolaty, even richer with more vanilla, nice wood presence that creates a dryer finish, less spicy. I actually liked this oak version a bit better than the base beer. A nice Halloween beer to help us forget that there are people out who put things in Halloween candies that hurt the children (just read the ingredients).

Black pour, moderate head, aroma is mostly mild spice and a background of malt. Taste is sweet, slightly spicy, smooth, mellow, slightest hints of chocolate. A little chewy. Very easy to drink. Of the pumpkin brews I’ve tried, this is the best so far, but it’s not quite as compelling as I was hoping for.

From a trade with savnac-thanks, Ira! About a year old. Thin quick fading head but persistent lacing on a slightly thin dark brown. Nose reads like just what is on the bottle: earthy pumpkin, some cocoa, and light pumpkin spice. I’m digging it, but then it takes a 180 on the taste...lots of lacto acidic funk first and foremost and some maybe some dark roast malt in the mid to end if you look for it. Infected? I wasn’t expecting this. It’s not bad infected though but not was I was expecting at all...bottle says nothing about wild yeast or bacteria but I see others have experienced the same. I dunno, I wonder what it was like fresh. Nose changes to a mild sour beer with some wood...maybe more of the original nose in the flavor and way less of the bacterial funk? Would like to try it fresh and see. Not bad and a nice complex medium sour beer, but not what I was expecting at all.

This poured a medium brown color/dark red with a smaller beige head. Aroma was vineous, definitely infected, with light notes of pumpkin spices, and roasted malts. Flavor was much the same, not really tart, but definite sour fruit notes, light barrel funk and the underlying beer is there a little, but not much. One of those pleasant mistakes.

Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Notes of chocolate, spice, cinnamon, pumpkin, vanilla, there is an acidity that was not expected. Big thanks to Mike for sharing this one.

Bomber brought back from the Great White North by Mike, thanks! Pours a murky brown color with a medium white head. A big spicy nose with some brown malts and oak. The flavor is very mellow and clean with a punch of chocolate, cloves, oak, a bit of roast. Very good.

Bottle shared at HF harvest fest. Dark borwn almost black pour. Aroma is spicy, tons and tons of chocolate, pumpkin beer character is subdued, nice balance with the rich porter qualities - smells like a delicious dessert. Taste is slightly sweet, very chocolaty with a bit more barrel presence than in the aroma, light oak, spicy finish. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Quite tasty, too bad it’s so difficult to obtain.
