COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
OK, what do you get when we toss pale malted barley, pumpkin and spices into a stainless steel cauldron then stir in some magic? Uh, Trickster! The “magic” is actually mischievous Belgian yeast at play with cardamom, nutmeg and coriander. This spooky cool brew will make your glass glow bright despite the gloominess of the season.

Designed to conjure up a little fun during the darkening days of autumn, Trickster is a frivolous concoction of earthy pumpkin, comforting malt, and lively spices. This makes Trickster the brew to accompany your post-winterizing duties, family fall dinners, ghost stories, U-boast-iT stories, and “supposedly haunted” garage parties.

But the flavor range of Trickster also pairs well with citrusy and/or spicy cuisine. Try a glowing glass with your favorite dishes that incorporate nutmeg, cardamom or coriander—like Thai curries, Swedish meatballs, gingerbread…or seek out new recipes on the web. The possibilities are endless. Unfortunately our Trickster supply will end soon. Get it and enjoy it now!

Draft at the brewery. Orange-gold with a small white head. Belgian yeast and spices on the aroma. The flavor is mildly sweet and rather belgian with notes of coriander, ginger, and caramel. Not much pumpkin, maybe a little. Medium body and carbonation. A little underwhelming, but still good.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a ruddy brown colored body with a thin white head that concaves a bit at the edges with its lacing. The smell had some earthy Belgian yeast up front but some nice spicy tones that softly allow some clove and malty/somewhat sugary notes. There was some light pumpkin only after some warming. The taste was earthy yet spicy yet malty sweetness with some light vanilla and pepper. Slight clove-like vanilla aftertaste and dry spicy finish. On the palate, it sat at/about a medium, and was somewhat sessionable. Carbonation has an adequate harshness for a Belgian beer yet still comes across with a decent smoothness. Overall, this seems to be more of a Belgian ale than a spice/herb/vegetable ale. No worries, its still good stuff that I might have again as the Belgian and spicy notes take over more so than the pumpkin notes.

bhensonb (10908) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 31, 2013
Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy orange amber with a transient beige head. Aroma is very light pie spice. Med body or better. Flavor is pie spice, but there is the yeast/fruit ester thing playing in. It’s thinning rapidly and the flavors aren’t really strong. It’s nice, but it’s not very exciting? Damning with faint praise? It isn’t really sweet or bitter. The flavors tend to fade away.

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours light amber with a rich off-white head and a spicy pumpkin aroma. There is a rather harsh vegetable flavor with a mix of spices and a noticeable yeast presence.

Sample at Kurtkeller 001: Pumpkin-tastic 01 on 11/22/2013. Clear orange color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of cloves, malt and pumpkin. Medium-bodied with flavors of cloves, yeast, earthy malt and ginger. The finish is mildly spiced with a ginger and yeast aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a medium beige head, creamy with nice lacing. Aroma is spices, allspice, clove, cinnamon, herbs. Flavor is the same, light sweet and light zesty bitter, herbal and quite spicy with strong earthy yeast notes as well. Medium body. Meh.

Aroma dominated by cardimon and nutmeg with moderate clove. Coppers range with off white head. Pretty. Spice dominates flavor with cardimon and clove. Proving yet again I don’t like pumpkin ales.

Beer #4. Aroma is earthy, Belgian yeast imparting banana, light clove. Pours hazy orange with a medium beige head with good retention. Taste is extremely earthy, clove. Highly carbonated, medium-bodied. Second beer in a row with very little to no pumpkin character. Not bad for a spiced up earthy tripel, though.
