I had this soon after it came out and then got treated to a bottle at the home of "AKfaust" when I was up in ANC for the 2012 GABBF. Colour... dark golden amber with no head. Nose... hints of the cabernet come through as well as the oak and aromas reminiscent of Oloroso sherry. Palate... it’s lost some of its CO2 and there a smidgen of oxidation but this one still sings with caramel, toffee, dried ’cots, dates and marzipan all leading to a resoundingly sweet and slightly dry finish.

Pours amber in color with a big off-white head. There’s a little bit of wine and booze on the aroma. A really nice dak fruit and sweet caramel malt aroma. Might even be some chocolate. The flavor is quite nice. Lots of chocolate and dark fruit notes. A really nice Cabernet flavor. Solid stuff. Medium and medium.

This poured a lighter to medium murky brown colorw ith a small beige head. Aroma was lots of dark fruits, plums, red grapes, some toffee and light cardboard form oxidation. Flavor was very smooth for the strength of this bad boy, nice spicey yeast notes, many dark fruits, tannins, and some sherry too. Pretty decent.

Had this at the 2011 Pittsburgh Ratebeer Christmas Eve Eve Tasting. Big thanks to Mr Chopin for this very unique and valuable beer. Big cream soda looking pour with a big head. Weird aroma, very sweet-ish for lack of a better descriptor. Taste is wew, quite alky and certainly holds its own on letting you know its 14%, perhaps more. Over the top in more than beer personality. Did I say alky is present? Once again Kevin kicks my ass in a tasting and now I would do well to forget about trying any other beer. MY TASTE BUDS ARE FRIED! Please Kevin, get me a gallon of water to cleanse my cheapie lager loven’ palate! Can this really be called beer? This wanna bee quad, like most american quads, leaves something to be desired when compared to the real refined beldgy quads such as Het Kapittel Watou Abt.

Brown-orange, beige foam. Aroma is definitely oxidized malt, caramel, cocoa, brown sugar. Taste is loads of brown sugar, is definitely again oxidized, but pleasant mix of sherry, not too cardboardy.

dark plum brown, thin, lasting beige head. Heavy date and malt, light bit of tea and sugar but very low. No yeast. Flavor is more traditional quad, more dry nut and date at front, sugar emerging mid, burnt and more malt in the lengthy, Malty finish. No heat, light oxidation, moderate body, very dry.

651mL thanks to savnac. The pour is a cloudy, hazy golden tawny barleywine color with a matching yellow head. Massive head formation and big retention. Big lacing. Nose is licorice, meat, spice, cinnamon, old barleywine orange mint, menthol, loads of maple. Sort of a contest between oxidation and mint with meat/fat and maple. Taste is soft, buttery, spicy bourbon, oak, big oak tannins, heavy maple and butterscotch. Would do very well just as normal barleywine rather than Abbey Quad. Palate is full, rich, spicy, heavy on toffee and caramel. Very good.

22oz bottle, thanks GT2. Small beige head, dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some bittersweet chocolate, raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, roast, chocolate, some alcohol burn, raisin. Sticky medium-full body.
