3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
50cl bottle at Håndverkerstuene. Best before 2012-09-02. Amber orange colour wirh a very small head. Aroma is very sweet and malty. Lots of caramel, brown sugar and malt in the aroma, but also fruity. The alcohol is also prominant as you would expect in a barley wine. Flavour is sweet with almost no bitterness. Alcohol and bitterness is very well hidden. There is some alcohol, but it’s soon replaced by the sweet flavours of malts, brown sugar, fruityness and caramel notes. This is a scary beer as you don’t notice the alcohol before the end of the bottle and your head is suddenly woozy. Subtle, but lingering aftertaste.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.5l bottle. Pours a deep hazy chestnut-brown body with a fading beige and creamy head. Aroma is nice caramel, dark ripe fruits, roasted dates, strawberries, light grassy, pecan nuts and a hint of alcohol and yeast. Really full-bodied, average to softly carbonated and has a chewy and thick texture. You can quite feel the alcohol, and it’s really caramel-sweet. Ends with a lingering alco finish, slight stingy, and has a quite sweet aftertaste with dark malty/burned caramel. I don’t particular like it when the barlywines gets too sweet, and this one unfortunately is a tad to sweet for my liking. Noticed that this bottle has braille on the label. Nice little touch there from Midtfyns, but that does not save this from being an average barlywine.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled at Carlsens Kvarter, Odense. Hazy mahogany colour, lasting head. Malty bready nose. Sweet with some some strawberry esters, full bodied with lovely deep malt character. Very English style barle ywine, where rich deep malt by far outweighs hops. Mildy warming finish. Lovely!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Amber red, finger thick tanned head. Aroma of prunes, raisins and roasted malts. Very fruity indeed. Taste is same with tons of sweetness. Also light hints of chocolate. Almost like a dessert wine this. Finish is quite bitter with some interesting hops. Feel is quite sticky. A pretty good Barley Wine

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 10.0%. Copper colour, large off-white head. Malty aroma, also strong notes of dark dried fruits and caramel, hints of oak. The fairly sweet flavour has notes of dark dried fruits, brown syrup and plenty of caramel, hints of oak. The bitterness is quite moderate, a little more wouldn’t hurt. Still a decent barleywine. I hate myself for not having some Blue Stilton cheese to go with it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle (Hilpea Hauki, Helsinki)
7 Lovely sweet malty aroma, a touch yeasty.
4 Deep reddy brown, ring head.
7 Full malts, a bit sugary, of the toffee variety. Some yeastiness too.
4 Smooth palate, just short of slick, gentle carbonation. Finish enhances the yeastines, and heads off in the direction of marmite.
14 Hedonistically, I do like this, but being critical, it is a bit too sweet. It is bottle conditioned, I believe, so at 10% this should be better in a year or so.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a deep brown hazy body with a bronze taint and a big, off-white head that vanishes rather quickly. Nose is sweet, buttery caramel, malt extract, toffee and that unmistakable "Midtfyn aroma". Pretty nice, though. Taste is very, very sweet and laden with expressive, massive tones of caramel - the home-made version where you take butter, sugar and a bit of cream and simmer it in a pan until it’s brown liquid ("knekk" in Norwegian). Some raisins and booze lurk underneath the surface too, along with traces of wood and the toffee version of caramel. This is too sweet for me, but could make as a nice dessert-like sipper I guess.
