COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Pours hazy dark amber with thick, creamy off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, light citrus and hops. Very sweet-ish. Taste echoes that, very sweet, toffee and butterscotch like character. Finish is abrupt but sweet and light boozy, although the alcohol is controlled very well throughout. Body is medium creamy with flat carbonation.

Bottle. Pours amber, with a small creamy head. Aroma is sweet with roasted malts, as well as grain, oak, toffee and a whiff of alcohol. Flavour is sweet and quite smoky, with coffee, chocolate, molasses as well as toffee and alcohol giving a sweetness sticking through the finish.

500ml bottle from IPB.
Appearance : Deep amber with medium foamy head.
Aroma : Rich caramel with rich piny and herbal hops. Light resinous notes. Great malty caramel. Toffee.
Taste : Caramel with herbal and piny hops. Not very heavy on the piny. Finish caramel and herbal hops, light resinous and piny notes. Fairly persistent caramel on the finish with light hops and light alcohol. Some toffee on the late finish.
Palate : Moderate carbonation. Maybe a bit on the high side for the style.
Overall : Really nice example of the style. Nothing fancy but very well executed. I really enjoy the balance between hops and malt. The malt is quite nice and the hops are not taking too much space in the profile. A very elegant barley wine.

Bottled, february 14th 2013. Dark amber bodied with a (for the strength) big beige head. Aroma of honey, herbs and ripe fruit. Taste is sweet, lots of honey and caramel, toffee, fruit and alcohol. Long bitterness, spicy sweet finish. A bit alcoholic aftertaste. A pretty good barley wine.

(50 cl.

Bottle - 500ml. Pours a cloudy amber/caramel body with a thin off-white creamy head. Sharp hoppy taste with citrusy, vanilla, and some woody hints. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Its hoppy taste carries fruity, yeasty, and caramel notes. Texture is soft and finish is vineous, warming. Very enjoyable.

(bottle) pours a murky ruby-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of red grapes, caramel and powdered sugar, slightly meaty, with a hint of cola and raisins. flavour is very sweet, raisins, caramel and sweet spices are dominant, with some notes of herbal hops and powdered sugar. medium to heavy-bodied with soft carbonation. much too sweet.

Terracotta pour, clear, yet quite sedimented at the bottom, covered by a quickly fading head. Highly aromatic, very English aroma where vibrant fruity esters poke the rich biscuity, caramelly, honeyed, toffee laden, sweet yet satisfyingly balanced toasted maltiness. Brightly extracted malt flavours quickly bring that ale to sweetness levels that are beyong my usual preferences. Its almost intense fruitiness, of an almost juicy nature, especially taking into account the very soft, almost timid carbonation, acts as a counterbalance to the malt’s sweetness, bringing the focus to a vinous territory, one of a dessert wine, perhaps, but one where ample, chewy texture never feels quite syrupy and minimal, tea-like hops, maintain the focus with eloquence. Broad fruit range covered here: plum, peach, white grape ans strawberry: a fruit salad amid a strong cerealic foundation. Staying two-dimensional throughout - fruit and caramelly malts - but doing it with conviction and no abuse. Surprisingly very impressive to me.

Pours orange amber with a tiny beige head. Aroma of thick sweet caramel, apple pie, ripe plums, toffee, dates and a little bit of alcohol. Taste of sweet caramel, a bit of alcohol, apples, toffee, dates, plums and with a rather dry and flat end.
