3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
0,5 l bole
Appearance: black with a strong offwhitehead, leaving a few rings of lacing.
Aroma: Dark chocolate . Red fruits (Dates and Raisins) and roasted malts as well.
Taste: Starts Swee with roasted malts with coffee , followed by a more chocolate bitterness with red fruit . Then the roastiness increasses some licorice, and ligh ashy tones come in, also at this part the sweetness becomes less befor it stingently finishes it, wich leaves a aftertaste which is roasty and with ligh red fruit and earthy ashy tones.
Medium body, average carbonation, oily texure.

Delicious smell, very foamy head, comes out of the bottle non stop. Taste of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and some candisugar I think. Very full bodied. A tiny bit too sweet.

Drank with Patrick and Thierry 19-6-2014. Good beer. Smells like malts and nuts. Tastes begins this way: very almond-like. Continues however with sweetness and ends with overwhelming (dark) chocolate. Nice and deep!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUL 20, 2014 Aroma of dark roasted malts, caramel, some chocolate, light coffee, a little dark fruit. Flavour is a tad sweet, exactly the level of sweetness this beer needs. Long finish with a welcome bitterness to balance things out. Quite easily drinkable despite the 8% ABV. Smooth and remarkably balanced.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2014-05-26. Black body, nice foamy brown head fades. 4+ Aroma has lightly dusty notes over cocoa accented mild roast character, dark malt below. 7++ Flavour is richly malty, moderate to mild dry roast throughout, mild cocoa and chocolate weaves through, sweetish core but it finishes on the dry side, with moderate roast. Very lightly fruity, that comes out a bit more as it warms. Smooth medium to full bodied palate has soft carbonation. Not super complex but pleasantly rich. Very nice. Bottle from the LCBO, Toronto

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
uber dark brown and thick pouring with a strong head. Really strong dark chocolate notes off that head as it fizzes away. Dates and malts as well.
Very smoked almost burnt taste at first. A bit off putting, it then fades into sweeter notes of chocolate. That’s followed by some licorice. Wish I liked licorice. The malts and dates come back at the end. Impressive balance and pallet. Not quite for me though. It’s a damn good beer, but those licorice notes turn me off.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pitch black ale covered by a slowly fading tan head. The aroma captures the deep black malt aromas of great stouts with an extra fruity kick that gives it solid complexity. The alcohol evolves in this dark stewed fruit surroundings and this brings forth an accentuated acidic touch to the already acidic roasted malts. On the porter front, along with comforting chocolate notions, it procures nuances of ashes and smoke, both well integrated to the rest. Chewy mouthfeel, round and agreeable on its own, but to my palate, clashing a little with the tartish liquorous/alcoholic fruity profile which begs for a lighter touch on the palate. The roundness stems more from excellent malt extraction and presumably water profile than an abundance of residual sugars, to my liking. Very well brewed, but failing to hit the nail spot on the head to my very personal tastes.

Flasche: Deep ruby-amber coloured, almost black, big and stable and lacy (leaving rings on the glass) tanned head; solid bitter-sweet nose with aromas of ashes, dried fruits and dry roasted malt; moderate to solid bitter-sweet flavour, medium to full bodied, creamy MF; solid finish, featuring ashes, roasted malt, chocolate and dried fruits. Wow! What a delicious brew…
