Bottle. Low but lasting creamy brown head. Black body. Powerful creamy cocoa aroma. Liquorice coffee flavor, creamy, smooth and pleasant yet not sweet. Low carbonation. Long sweet aftertaste.

Bottled@SBWF2010. Deep ruby brown colour, close to black, with a mediumsized beige head. Aroma is caramel malts, some toffee, mild ashes, roasted malts, some smoked wet wood as well as some liquorice. Flavour is being qquite much the same, but the liquorice is being much more evident.

Svesse (7849) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 31, 2010
(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 9 Oct 2010) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice, strong black coffee and dark rye bread. Roasted, malty taste with liquorice, dark chocolate, black coffee and a generous cocoa bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a gentle sweetness lingering throughout. Lovely porter in excellent balance.

Bottle. Dark brown body with a medium quick disappearing brown head. Aroma is lots of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit. Flavor is lots of bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, dark fruit, light alcohol. Low to medium carbonation.

Bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours pitch black with a moderate sized tanned head. Aroma of liquorice, roasted malts, chocolate and lots of hops. Taste is weaker than suggested by the aroma, but liquorice, port, coffee and even a whiff of smoke, nice beer. Full bodied.

Bottle at home. Thick black pour with a dense tan head. Beautiful. Aroma of coffee, licorice, peat, loads of roasted malts and some bready yeast. Flavor is dry, black coffee, burnt malts and some bread. Very nice round flavor and a distinct coffee taste that is really flavorful. Very nice brew.

Bottle at Cardinal’s Porter Symposium. Dark brown short lived head on a clear brown body. Rich roasted notes, chocolate on the nose. Roasted, salty and alcoholic sweet impression in the mouth. Dry. Full body. Medium carbonation.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2011 Bottle, at Cardinal’s Ølsymposium. Pitch black colour, moderate tan head. Lovely and well rounded aroma and flavour with all the typical robust porter qualities, but the roastiness is not overdone. Smooth and nicely balanced. Will give a more detailed review on the next occasion.

Draught @ Borefts Bier Festival 2010, Brouwerij de Molen, Overtocht 43, Bodegraven, Netherlands.

Clear dark black brown color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate malt, strong coffee, moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100924]
