February 26, 2014. 500mL bottle from LCBO. Dark chocolate, coffee, brunt caramel aromas. Very dark beer, brown head. Dark chocolate, burnt caramel flavours. Lovely lacing on the glass. A great beer that got even better as I drank it.

Sampled at a beertasting with Evil Stepdad. Now here is something deserving a place in top 10. Dark sticky blackish look with a decent brown head. Powerfull toffee aroma with cocoa, liquirice dark chocolate and all of it being very delicate. Awsome roasted bitter chocolate flavor, wellrounded sweet malty notes and a perfect amount of alchohol. I was thinking Hel und Verdoemenis when drinking this, without knowing De Molen acctually did have a finger in this brew. Nice!

500ml bottle from the LCBO. black with a tan head. drinks like a hoppy imperial stout rather then a porter. that aside its awesome. everything you could want in a big black ale. lovely stuff.

Black pour, dark cocoa head. Aroma is touches of alcohol, some big roasted malts, sweet cocoa, and some light smoke. The body is crisp, and light, the mouth feel is creamy. The finish, isnt too thick, or over powering. Light to medium bitterness, some solid sweet cocoa, and the smoke really comes through. Very drinkable for 8%. Great stuff!

Floored by this beer. Pours thick, syrupy black with a dark brown frothy head. Aroma is just loaded with dark chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is layered with cocoa, roasted malts that is just rich and awesome. A little coffee mixed in there but I’m so bummed I only bought one and not a case.

500 ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a thick, resilient beige head. Aroma is chocolate, smoke, dark berries, black licorice. Flavor is dark berries, black licorice, purple grapes, chocolate and vanilla. Finish is dark chocolate, burnt caramel, hazelnut, ash, smoke and coffee. Medium to full body, velvety, soft and mellow mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. Wowzers!

500ml bottle. Dark brown body, medium chocolate head with excellent retention, but poor lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate lava cake, burned toast, molasses, licorice, cinnamon, and some alcohol in the backstage. Taste dominated by roasted malt: rye bread toast, chocolate syrup, molasses, burned caramel, smoked prunes. Oily but much lighter than expected. Fantastic brew!

Bottle. Pours pitch black with large foamy brown head, which falls to small beige creamy head. Aroma is rye bread, coffee, licorice, ammonium chloride, prunes and hints of milk. Taste is initial very sweet then light bitter and faint umami. Body is milky with soft carbonation. Finish is long with notes of sweet licorice, rye bread, brunt sugar, caramel and whole milk.

The color is black with very nice tan head. There is at first a cookie like aroma, then comes coffee, licorice and vanilla. Taste is sweet with smokey and licorice flauvour. Well balanced beer all the way. It’s an experience in World class.
