COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: The Double IPA is an American inspired, dark amber beer with a beautiful light coloured head. The brewer has chosen to dry hop this IPA which adds to the full and complex hop profile of Cascade, Chinook and Centennial. The IPA has a very full body, with a soft yet strong flavour and a very bitter finish - the result has to be experienced. Goes with spicy dishes, but is best enjoyed on its own.

500ml bottle from LCBO, Shops at Don Mills, Toronto, ON. 9.2 alc./vol. Pours a hazy amber colour with two finger of off white head. Floral aroma and some caramel on the nose. Metallic, boozy taste with a smooth hoppy finish. Considering that this is a double IPA, the taste is not extremely bitter.

500ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Cloudy orange in colour with a thin off white head, light lacing. The aroma is malty, lots of caramel, some citrus and a bit of pine. The flavour is moderately bitter, some citrus hops, caramel sweetness, light alcohol. Finishes long, bitter, some warmth.

Pours a murky amber with an off-white soapy head that leaves a thin lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus with some caramel. Full body, thick feel, lively carbonation. Taste packs a punch with grass, hop resin and alcohol. Long and bitter finish with something resembling bark or tree sap.

500ml bottle A strange combination of brown and amber in the glass are topped by thick foamy head. Good foam retention. Aroma is of unused beer wort. Taste is at first malty, followed by distinct bitterness. Citrus and resin on palete. Have tasted some other beers from this brewery and really enjoyed them. this one falls short of the others.Hop profile is too bitter, not well balanced with the rest of the flavours.

Definitely on the sweeter side. Pours slightly cloudy Amber with limited had and spotty lacing. Nose is sweet caramel. Flavours of csramel dominate with some earthy bitterness and quite a bit of dark fruit like plums, also a hint of vanilla. Taste med bitter and med/light sweet. Full sticky body with lively csrbonation and a very agressive alcohol burn in the finish.

I’m judging the book by the cover here, with the lousy looking pour (a reddish brown with an impotent dish soap style foam) bring the rating for this otherwise decent brew down. I reread my reviews of the two other beers I’ve rated from this brewery & they BOTH make note of poor appearance in the glass. The conclusion: this brewery makes ugly looking beer. Odd. This is a throaty double IPA, with strong notes of pine, hops, booze & burnt sugar. The finish is a pleasing tree bark bitter with a long sustain that will turn some people off, but I find it is this brew’s strong point. Enjoyable.

hangunder (299) - Ontario, CANADA - MAR 23, 2015
Smells nice, but slightly subdued. Caramel malt, a bit of spicyness and some citrus hops. Hazy muddy color, with long lasting white head. Tastes decent, much more of the english style of double IPA (at least at it’s current freshness condition). Quite malty upfront, finishes with a bit of citrus flavor and a sweet malt character. Medium bodied and average carbonation. Does hide it’s alcohol level quite well.

500 mL bottle. Translucent copper with a small but sticky head. Light floral and mild citrus notes in the nose. Doesn’t smell big; smells approachable. The flavour is rather unique. There seems to be vanilla ice cream in there. (Not barrel vanilla). citrus and resin from the hops. Honey from the malts. Lingering flavour, bitterness and slight booziness at the end. solid body. Unique.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a lightly cloudy coppers colour with large, creamy, sticky eggshell-coloured head. Aroma is quite spicy and floral with rich tropical fruit and caramel. Flavour is big on rich, sweet caramel, some interesting fruity notes, strong grainy character, some flowers and a little spiciness. Soft carbonation yields a silky mouthfeel. Nice.
