COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: The Double IPA is an American inspired, dark amber beer with a beautiful light coloured head. The brewer has chosen to dry hop this IPA which adds to the full and complex hop profile of Cascade, Chinook and Centennial. The IPA has a very full body, with a soft yet strong flavour and a very bitter finish - the result has to be experienced. Goes with spicy dishes, but is best enjoyed on its own.

Bottle at the RBESG08 Grand tasting. Alround rating: Very malty iipa, caramalt, grassy citrus character and peppery alc. I was really looking forward to this but somewhat let down by its raw maltyness.

500 ml bottle. Copper coloured with some floaties, but otherwise clear. Medium-sized white fine-laced head that clings to the glass. Rich bready malt aroma with some notes of red berries. Floral hop aroma, but not that outstanding aroma. Strong hop bitterness that almost turns into resin juice. Salty. This balances nicely with the otherwise rich, but cloying, malty flavours. Unbalanced and not very successful brew. Rich, yes, but could be much better.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2009 Sampled at the RBESG08 grand tasting. Hazy mahogny with medium tan head. Fruity and caramelly, with pine and citrus hops. Medium bodied and smooth. Well balanced with a bitter finish. Rerate, bottle (50 cl) from Systembolaget. Felt boring this time around, with weak hops aroma. Well balanced and quite ok though.

Bottled at RBESG. Hazy nut brown, small head. Grapefruity nose. Sweet and full flavoured. Bold caramelly malt dipped in hop sauce with graepfruit and salmiak. Medium to full bodied. Bitter salty licorice finish. Interesting in that I’ve never tasted as much salmiak in an IPA.

Bottle. Hazy copper with a stable tan head. Strong herbal hops aroma. Good bitterness together with sweet caramel, even hints of berries and butter. Quite likeable, despite the fat buttery impact.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2008 Bottle at Chris_o birthday bash 08. Amber colour. Thin off white head. Diacetyl and not enough hop. Toffee, astringent hop on finish. Hops are strong, but just not my style. Toffee, butter throughout puts me off. Hops on end are hot rather than flavourful. Just too much toffee. Will re-rate. 3.2/5.0 Re-rate RBESG08 grand tasting. Hazy russet Double IPA aroma of sweet toffee and grapefruit hop. Doesn’t jump out at me, got all the elements, but no great character.

Bottle at Århus Beerfestival. Lots off hops, and alkohol but the malt body is a little behind. In my eyes is this beer not a double IPA.

Bottle 0.5 l. Bought Bjergtrolden Roskilde. Aroma filled with bitter hops and a hint of dark chocolate. Colour a bit unclear, light brown with small white head. Very bitter flavour. The three different hops are very dominating. Soft carbonation.

Fresh new keg.
Cloudy dark amber color; medium sized creamy head. Nice aroma, hoppy and fruity, with hints of chocolate. Good body strength; it has strong caramel flavor, some toffee and light chocolate too; very light fruit touch, but strong bitterness; it actually is more solid than fresh. The final is bold, long, but without excitement, and so this beer overall.

The presence of good hops is confirmed: very nice aroma. But less sweet than I remembered; and the final is not showing enough hop qualities, mostly bitterness.

Hazy amber color; creamy head. It has a very nice aroma of American hops (it’s brewed with Centennial, Chinook and Cascade). It has good body strength, powerful caramel flavor and toffee, with enough sweetness, then the oily extreme hopping; there is a light astringency, probably because the bottle was shaken. Very long and strong final. Very good.

Beautiful hazy amber color; creamy head. It has an excellent aroma of creamy hops and caramel. The flavor is basically toffee, with strong bitterness (and some nice hop oils), a touch of liquorice (unpleasant) and traces of yeast (unexpected). Good for the hops, the rest should be reconsidered.
