Gr0ve (1116), Oslo, Norway Jul 7, 2008 500 ml bottle. Copper coloured with some floaties, but otherwise clear. Medium-sized white fine-laced head that clings to the glass. Rich bready malt aroma with some notes of red berries. Floral hop aroma, but not that outstanding aroma. Strong hop bitterness that almost turns into resin juice. Salty. This balances nicely with the otherwise rich, but cloying, malty flavours. Unbalanced and not very successful brew. Rich, yes, but could be much better.
RudeLead (7), Oslo, Norway does not count Oct 11, 2008 Pours clear and reddish amber with a nice off white head with medium to slightly low head retension. Aromas of malts, some roasted, mellow round hops in the direction of warm pieapple and resin with notes of apple cellar, spices and butter (probobly from an English ale/bitter yeast strain). No volatile alchoholic aromas, despite the pretty high ABV. Quite full Burton’ish, minerally mouthfeel. The roasty malt and butter really comes through in the taste together with some caramel and warm, almost a bit cooked fruityness. Also slightly salty... The hops stay in the background in the taste exept for a slight warm, fruity attack. Medium length. Quite a special double IPA... Kinda like it though. Wee heavy meets ESB meets English IPA? Bov (4659), Bienne, Switzerland Oct 7, 2008 courtesy of Per Forsgren - cloudy reddish colour with an elusive pale beige foam; aroma of grapefruit and pineapple with a touch of disinfectant; fresh and rounded palate, medium-bodied with a bitter and fairly salty finish; lingering notes of melon in a quite long aftertaste Fin (2357), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Sep 28, 2008 Had this on tap at the Cockney Pub, Aarhus 16-09-08 (also have been given a bottle by Kim Johannsen, cheers Kim Pours amber with some orange with a white head. Taste is quite sharp with some unripe satsuma or mandarin the bitterness clings sweetness is there and sits under the tongue and not so much of it. Really looking forward to the bottle from Kim. austone (447), Turku; Pori, Finland Sep 19, 2008 50cl bottle. Dark amber, lacing beige head. Strong caramel malty aroma, strong hops, plastic, little dill and butter (no potatoes though). Similar caramel flavor, liquorice, strong hops, little chalky bitterness. Medium bodied, smooth palate. Alright, average DIPA, there could more aroma hops though. KnutAlbert (2322), Oslo, Norway Sep 9, 2008 Bottle from Vinmonopolet.
Lovely hoppy aroma, mouthwatering, sweet.
First sip: Rich, aromatic, pucky dryness. Very extreme, very American, very true to type.
