deep deep brown&amber, but not entirely black, with a solid inch of tan head. Nose is full of pine and caramel, but i also detect some butterscotch. Taste is piney and rather mellow, also with a hint of the butterscotch. Well balanced but with a distinct bitter finish. The roastyness i usually expect from a black IPA is very well hidden. Medium to full bodied and softly carbonated.

0.5 L bottle from Vinmonopolet, Vika. Opaque, dark brown to black. Tall creamy sand-colored head. Fairly mild hop nose, some oranges and hint of currants. Nicely rounded malt aroma, creamed coffee and discreet roast tones. Full body, silky mouthfeel. Taste is complex and well balanced. Not overly bitter, but just enought to balanced the malts. Creamed coffee flavored as well. Also some nice tones of red berries and peppery caramel. A light bitterness and some fine roasty tones linger in the finish. Not unlike an American style Porter, this one. Nevertheless, a lovely beverage.

500ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Dense beige head with a solid stand leaving rings of lace behind. Coal black body. Inviting aroma of earthy, dark malts and herbal hops. Rich taste character of dark fruits, anise, coffee grounds and nutty fruits, as well as herbs and spices. All ingredients are well blended giving way to a rounded, bittersweet ending. Enjoying on a late Saturday evening at home in Tromsø, 26.05.2012).

Bottle (50cl) from Vinmonopolet (Sjølyst), Oslo. Very dark (almost black) reddish brown colour. Inch-thick light beige head, good retention, some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, hops, coffee, chocolate, licorice, bitter orange marmalade. Full body, well-hidden alcohol, soft carbonation. Taste has excellent balance between malt sweetness, hop bitterness, citrus acidity and even a pleasant saltiness. Finish is on the dry and bitter side with a hint of paper/coffee beans.

Bottle. Black with a smallish cappuccino head.Good malty roast combined with refreshing citrussy hop nose. A powerful balance balance prevails also in the mouth, the dark forces of maltiness perfectly offset by Western hop powers, the latter seeming stronger towards the end. Black IPAs are everywhere these days (so no points for originality), but sharp execution deserves credit, too.
