COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor's note: Voted best new beer 2007 by the Danish Society of Beer Enthusiasts.

English: Imperial Stout is a dark and rich beer with a beautiful dark cream coloured head. It’s brewed from several types of roast malts and conditioned on oak, which adds to the heavy body. The Imperial Stout has a strong and growing aftertaste of coffee, bitter chocolate and vanilla. Suited for game, strong cheeses and chocolate desserts. Or may be enjoyed alone in a cognac snifter in front of the fireplace.

Bottle. Pours dark, nutty brown with thick, frothy tan head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is dark fruit, roasted malt, brown sugar and chocolate. Flavor matches the nose with light smoke. Medium/full body with medium carbonation and warmth. Good beer.

Black body, with a faint hint of red. Oh how I love that colour! The brown head is large and long-lived, or rather, the remnants of hte head are long lived: the head reduces to foamy patches and build-up at the walls disappointingly fast. Good lacing. Intense aroma, even at 10ºC, and it gets more and more intense as the beer warms up. It’s heavy malty and very sweet. Roasted notes, coffee, chocolate, tobacco, alcohol, and faint grapes, raisins and black currant. I miss some more obvious hoppy notes, but by all means a tempting aroma. Medium to heavy sweet taste and a medium bitterness with a long-lasting roasted coffee finish. Complex flavours, to quote my tasting notes: "First sip: initially totally dominated by very sweet caramel, then chocolate replaced by strong coffee. Second sip: sweet berries, then bitter chocolate coffee mayhem!". The alcohol is quite well hidden. Halfway down the bottle I got some oak as well, but that may because I really was trying to find it… Wonderful mouthfeel, with a full body (but not as full as Nøgne Ø’s Imperial Stout), oily to syrupy texture and soft carbonation. A very nice ale!
[50 cl bottle, enjoyed ~1 year before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål Stadion, Oslo]

Pours a nice deep brown with a fluffy tan head. Soft, chocolatey aroma with minimal roast character, very Danish I reckon. Something perfumey in there too, maybe grapes. Flavor is a direct recreation of the smell. Chocolates and fruit with no bitterness, roast or alcohol. Not bad but lacks oomph. A little low on carbonation too I notice. A solid but unspectacular brew.
