COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor's note: Voted best new beer 2007 by the Danish Society of Beer Enthusiasts.

English: Imperial Stout is a dark and rich beer with a beautiful dark cream coloured head. It’s brewed from several types of roast malts and conditioned on oak, which adds to the heavy body. The Imperial Stout has a strong and growing aftertaste of coffee, bitter chocolate and vanilla. Suited for game, strong cheeses and chocolate desserts. Or may be enjoyed alone in a cognac snifter in front of the fireplace.

A long-lasting, elegant, homogeneous tan head lives above the clearish dark brown. Not all that close to black in colour, but that does not keep it from proposing a roast-focused aroma playing the dark chocolate and coffee tune accompanied by a confident, forward liquorous alcohol. Call it a coffee liquor if you will. Relatively lean palate for the genre, not without love handles, but far from the syrupy examples that abound nowadays and never overly sugary. Has a spicy kick (anise, woodsy, black pepper) which I have trouble figuring whether it comes from its otherwise subtle hops or some kind of alcohol-phenolic side effect. Not very punchy in terms of hop flavours, yet a very bitter example, for its bitterness hops, of course, but perhaps more especially for its dark espresso-like roasted malts, sharper than in the vast majority of impys out there. A very competent example, perhaps lacking in fruit to fit my very personal preferences for strong roasty ales, but cohesive and flawless.

500 ml. bottle. Pours a thick, well retained, beige head, with some lacing, over a black (SRM 35) body.......nose is cocoa, chocolate, lighter of coffee, hints of dried fruit.....taste is sweet, with light plum, raisin, chocolate, light vanilla, finishing with a moderate bitterness......mouth feel thick, chewy, lightly astringent, alcohol hidden, carbonation adds tingle. This is a pleasant, nicely balanced Imperial Stout. It is somewhat sweeter than many, and lacks the very complex malt backbone of the best. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

En riktig goding. Fyllig, mörk och balanserad mellan smakerna av sötma och beska. Mycket chokladsmak.

Batch IS 0001. Aged bottle pours brown black with khaki head. urs brown black with khaki head. Roasted aromas with some sweet fruitiness and wooden must. The fruits jump with dark tree fruits and the roasted malt. All under it there is some leather and oak with a hint of vanilla to linger with the bittersweet grains and fruits. A slightly creamy finish seals the deal as a great drinking stout. Very nice and gets smoother with time.

500ml bottle. Clear reddish darkest brown colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma has hints of coffee, an oaky leather touch, maybe some woodruff. Taste is dry dark malty, hints of coffee, dark chocolate, subtle sweetness in the middle part with simultaneously upcoming hints of warming alcohol; very soft, silk palate.

Bottle - 500ml. Opaque black body with a thick beige creamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with grainy, chocolate, and brown sugar hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Its wonderful, complex malty/hoppy taste carries chocolate, fruity, and vineous notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Very good example of Imperial Stout.

15cl sample, from bottle @München Braukunst Live (MBL 09/03/2013). - Very solid, drinkable typical ImpStout with more of a pronounced caramel, dark roasted malt than a bittering hop profile, in line more with UK than US traditions (Samuel Smith): aka brewed to enjoy, not to recoil in awe from. ABV very well hidden. Democratically, creamily in between solid main land and insular traditions, just like Midtfyn? Tak for snakket og prøven, Eddie!
