A dark reddish brown coloured beer with a frothy off white head. A rich fruity aroma, roasted malt and dark fruits. Medium mouthfeel. A medium sweet taste, some caramel flavours, malty and dark fruits again. Bitter sweet flavours in the finish.

500ml bottle. Clear dark ruby red colour with small, frothy, diminishing, beige head. Malty aroma with notes of red berries, a dry touch of fruit parings, in the background a malty toffee touch, even some chocolate. Taste is initially minimally sweet malty, notes of dark berries, hints of toffee, later slightly dry to bitter hoppy overtones.

Medium carbonation keeps this light and produces a thin head. The flavour is pleasing. Light and leafy grassy hops, ending with more malted biscuit, and fudge type tastes. very easy to drink.

Bottle conditioned from West Country Ales, Cheddar, Somerset. Dark chestnut with cream head. Having had a poor run with dark malt led, autumnal type bitters I was a bit wary, but this proved to be the exception, there is a full roasty maltiness, some coffee grounds notes and a touch smokey. There is a general light sweetness and fruitiness with a later, slightly bitter and leafy hoppy note. It all comes together to be a pretty decent and quaffable beer. Very pleasant.

Bottle at home form ales by mail, thanks paul! Pours mid-ruby with a temporary beige head. Aromas of stewed plums and sweet malts. Malt robust in the bill with plenty of caramel, biscuits and fudge. Some earhy hop notes and slight bitterness. Slight chemical flavour in the finish thatI can’t quite place. Good condition.
