*beer review* Duggan’s Brewery - Sorachi Lager Typical piss yellow lager pour with a bit of thin white head. Lightly grassy scent. Not much there at all. Wow what a weird taste. It’s like theatre popcorn! Seriously. It lingers in the aftertaste. Wow odd. Oily synthetic tasting and buttery. Pretty sure I’m not a fan. Yeah not really digging this,

Bouteille 275ml.

275 mL bottle. Really pale. Thin ring of head. Wheat in the aroma. And sorachi, I guess. Weird taste is butter, honey, lemon. Something like that. Dry. Not my thing, really.

Pretty damn good for a pale lager. The sorachi gives it a little aroma that distinguishes it from your average lager. Pours pale and pissy as any of its peers, quickly dying head. Has a crisp taste (that sounds like a beer commercial). Ya. Bottle.

275ml bottle, bright pale blonde color, with an off-white head, light honeyed pale, pilsener, wheat malt, faint vanilla nose, with a very weak floral fruity hop accent in the aroma follows through on a light-bodied palate with a mild yeasty, doughy, vanilla, light apple sauce fruity character with a very weak flowery fruity pear, lychee, apple, mango hoppy flavour, leading towards a yeasty, doughy, vanilla, subtle lingering fruity hop bitterness finish

Note: 3/10

Bottle. Light yellow with a slight haze and an average white head. Aroma is interesting, at first it is unmistakably vegetal but in a weird way. Some here are saying buttery, but that doesn’t quite hit it for me. The closest I can come is that it smells a little like hearts of palm or artichokes or something like that. Even that isn’t quite right, but its moving in the right direction. Maye a bit of pepper (i.e. capsicum, not spice). Flavour is also quite unique, and after a third of the bottle I am won over. There are pale malts here, clean and nice, but the real centerpiece is the sorachi ace hop character. I’ve commented before that it has almost a creamy, buckwheat kind of character that fades into a light floral lemon. Medium bitterness that is quite welcome in my version of any pale lager. This was interesting, beguiling, and well-made. I would buy more of this just to try and pin down what I’m getting on the palate with greater accuracy. Cool.

275 mL bottle. Never heard of Sorachi Ace hops until now, let alone known that they produce the unique buttery flavour mentioned in a few other rates. Pours a light golden colour with a fine head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. A little popcorn, yeast and lemon zest on the nose. The diacetyl comes through in the flavour as well, brioche comes to mind a little. Mildly flavoured, lightly bitter and mildly carbonated, easy on the palate and fairly light tasting. A decent quencher, but not all that interesting.
