3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 VeloVampire (625) - Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 4, 2010
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2010 On tap at Magpie - came a very pale, but slightly hazy golden. Thick, small white cap. Aroma fruity, yeasty, and a touch funky. Rice comes through in the flavour, but in a proud way, not hidden, adjunct-style. It is on show here. Gains grassy-bitter hoppiness as it warms. Not a favourite style of mine, but this is a very well-done example, and would be a lovely summer sessioner.

[2666-20091221] Tap. Sweet mushy banana bread yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, pale orange yellow body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. More mushy banana yeast in the flavour. Medium body has a mild tonic water feel to it. Wow, great banana bread characteristics, really interesting.

Aroma of mixed fruit, malt and spice, hazy yellow, tiny white head. Flavour is a musty malt, those hops give a most distinctive exotic punch. Light bodied, well balanced. A simple little beer, yet very unique!

Draught at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a small white head. Interesting, if not great, aroma of rice (sweet rice?), a hint of pepper and floral notes -- It’s sweet but I’m not sure from what. Flavour, again, of rice along with very light hops, grain and malt -- not bad, it’s not unflavourful. Average bodied. Not awesome but it has character, and it’s good with food.

2009-12-21. Light yellow body, modest white head fades. 3+ Interesting floral aroma, buttercup. Flavour has a similar buttercup floral character, decent hoppy bitterness. 6+ Average palate suits it. Better than expected but the hop character is not to my own tastes. On tap at the brewpub

Very fine, with crisp and toasty grain and malt right up front - actually it took me a few sips to like this. Almost like summer meadow hay and light honey, with a bit of lemon. Nice finish of lemon and hop dryness, don’t miss it.
