JPDIPSO (4180), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA Apr 28, 2008 Dark brown color with a rich looking, tight bubbled, glossy tan head. Fairly mild aromas, with husk and grain adding sweetness. Light grapefruit, mild light fruit, hints of roasted malt and coffee all seems to be hanging around, but nothing comes out and takes over the nose. It does seem to have a mild "green" scent. My first thought after sipping is... OK who handed me the creosote and tar infused coal. Certainly strong and foreboding flavors. A little more dissection is required. Very sweet start, with brown sugar, maple sap, and caramelized simple sugar. This is beyond WWS in many aspects. I started to think about a side by side, but then realized that I do have to work tomorrow and want to sleep vs. pass-out tonight. Only a few ounces in and my throat, stomach and head are all starting to warm up. Slick and lightly oily on the tongue. At this point in time this is far to young. I can see some potential. Middle has roasted and burnt malt, light grapefruit acidity, some berries and dark chocolate. Finish returns to the sweetness and sugary side. Light caramel and alcohol. Linger is long and bitter. I’m catching hops, tar, black malt, roasted malt, burnt coffee, charred wood and a few other things that are black, burnt and otherwise living up to the name bestowed upon this one. I will share one more bottle of this at some point in the next few months, otherwise any other bottles I may accumulate will need a few years.
pivnizub (3501), Porúří, Germany Jul 6, 2008 Bottle (@ RBESG 2008): Pours pitch-black with a stable, brownish head; liquorice, dark malt, sherry, dried fruit and leather in the nose; full sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; lingering, warming, first sweet, later bitter finish with traces of leather and coffee. Very good, but very sweet, indeed...... Magic_dave6 (3476), Glasgow, Scotland Jul 4, 2008 Bottle thanks to cgarvieuk at the pre-plzen knees up. Alround rating: Wow, honey, floural nose, a black mead for sure, very sweet indeed, burnt finish ruins it but would be an excellent non honey mead. faroeviking (3911), Faroese Beer Republic above, Denmark Jun 28, 2008 Botella. Rating # 3900. Poured in a big cognac glass. Pitch black colour with a huge dark brown creamy long lasting head leaving a great sticky lacing. The aroma os bustling with heavy roasted malt and alcohol along with chocolate, dark sweet fruits and coffee. Great filling mouthfeel. The flavour has plenty of roasted malt, lots of alcohol, bitter chocolate, lots of dark fruits, well roasted coffee, some liquorice and bitter hops. Too much alcohol in the flavour. Should have a few years in a cellar before drinking. Bragesnak (942), Aarhus, Denmark Jun 27, 2008 From LIC, Aarhus, DK.

Black with a brownish head. Aroma is vinous. Flavor is long lasting of malt - incl. roasted barley - caramel, chocolate, liqourice and hop bitterness. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Jun 26, 2008 This corked and caged bottled brew from Indianapolis, IN poured a medium sized head of fine to medium sized very dark brown colored long lasting bubbles that left behind an opaque black colored body with no visible carbonation and a most excellent lacing. The aroma was of vinous whiskey and dark malts. The mouth feel was thick vinous tingly and mildly burning from start to finish. The flavor was extremely yummy with thick dark malt brown malt and whiskey notes.
