I like a bit of head on my beer but this is flat - very very sweet - ridiculously easy to drink - good complex flavours but cloying - pleasant enough but sometimes more isn’t better.

(Mikkeller / BrewDog / Nøgne Ø Black Tokyo Horizon) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifer, ABV 16% Totally black colour on the body, with minimal dark brown head on top, disappearing quickly. Aromahas light alcohol, nice hazelnut notes, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, lots of alcohol here, salty liquorice, nutty notes, light mocha and hazelnut, light chocolate. Medium thick body, soft carbonation, as sticky on the palate as the other two on the series. Very good.

Bottle. Pours pitch muddy black with a brown head leaving huge dirty laces in the glass. The aroma has big dark malty notes, tobacco, chocolate milk, chocolate and vanilla. The taste is ashy with notes of roasted malts, chocolate milk, cocoa and dark thick malts. This is some messy grease but still not particularly bad.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Hot licorice and soy aromas. Thick with molasses and soy upfront turning to licorice and espresso in the lasting bitter burn.

Amargo seco final duradero quemado y algo torrefacto. Increíble cerveza. Para repetir sin duda.

330ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours very dark murky brown with a dark brown head. Lots of sendiment. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, alcohol, coconut, soy and raisins. Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied, thick texture - almost chewy, soft carbonation. Finish is roasted and a little unpleasant heavy boozy bitterness.

This bottle was a gift from old co-hort Juan and was the original bottling at 16%. It’s aged very well. All characteristics blend seamlessly. There’s a roasty sweetness with plenty of power against a background of heavy bitter, yet nothing seems out of place or extreme.

August 28, 2015. Bottle at home, best before october 23, 2023.
Side by side with the Brewdog and Nøgne Ø variants.
Black with a small dense, quickly dissipating, brown head. Aroma is dark roasted coffee, toffee, licorice, chocolate, some peat notes and soy. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter with soy and light peat notes. Finish is bitter with roasted notes and some sweet licorice and some soy notes. Medium to full bodied, soft carbonation.
The roasted bitterness in the finish is a bit too harsh, otherwise quite nice.
