3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Koelschtrinker (8481) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 11, 2011
8/10/8/12/12/11
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Powertrip (999) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 7, 2011
Single bottle purchased from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, AB. Colour: An interesting mix of cloudy brown and red with gigantic light brown head that is in no hurry to fade. Nose: Honey, malt vinegar, mint vines, pine sap, grease, leather. Taste: medium-high sweet, medium bitter, medium sour. Hot entrance....chocolate covered cherries, smoke, over-ripe cantaloupe, medicinal. Finish is woody and deliciously bitter. What a personality. What character. Slightly off-balance but still great stuff.

Bottle picked up at The Grove, Huddersfield, West Yorshire 23.04.11 consumed at home 25.04.11 Pours dark brown, touch hazy with an off-white head. This is too sweet and the hoppiness has all but vanished. Some smokiness on nose and in the mouth, dark unrefined sugars, but just too sweet for me and not a great idea to barrel age this. 3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 21, 2011
37.5 cL bottle from Kensington Wine Market in Calgary, tasted with the standard version side-by-side with Chris and Dan. Served in a goblet. Pours hazy mahogany with a small tan head. The head fades to a thin remnant and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has huge notes of whisky and oak, along with toasted malts, citrus and subtle floral notes. There are also notes of earth, smoke and peat. The flavour is intensely sweet with a complex roasty and smoky quality. There is virtually no sign of the huge hops that went into this one. The finish is long with a roasted malt quality. On the palate, it is full in body with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice whisky-infused brew that bears little resemblance to either an IPA or its standard-issue brother. It is much sweeter, more subtle and less imposing than the standard-issue and introduces a nice smoky, whisky quality. I liked it more than the standard, though I miss the imposing hop nose of the original. 2011-04-16
2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 MrManning (1982) - Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA - APR 17, 2011
Bottle sample with many thinks to Milos. Dark murky orangey/straw. Pours a sticky and thick froth.Looks good! Intense aroma of alcohol leads to woody metallic notes and burning cleaning product. Very bitter with really heavy sweetness. Burning, a very bitter metallic finish. Resiny and cloying too. A complete disaster. Pass.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sammy (7035) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 17, 2011
Not executed well. Boozy, tastes of extract. Below average mouthfeel. Bitterness with some malts, minor bourbon. Nice head.
Thanks Milos.
