2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 janubio (279) - SPAIN - MAY 18, 2013
Sample of an out dated bottle and it’s noticeable, I think. Dark brown lour, with no head and no lace. Smell: At first I only noticed alcohol esters and acetone, then whiskey and chocolate. Very low carbonation and light body. Taste of whisky, chocolate and toffee. Not as bitter as aone could think. Guess i’ll try to get another one in good conditions, it’s interesting and it should be much better then.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pivnizub (7993) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - MAR 11, 2013
Bottle: Cloudy, deep chestnut-amber coloured, big beaten-egg-white-like off-white head, sweetish leathery nose with distinctive traces of dried black berries and a "medical" touch; moderate to solid sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied; sherry notes in the sweet toasty and caramelly finish, that is followed by a solid bitterness in the aftertaste. Well balanced heavy brew, but where are the 1000 IBU’s…
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gr0ve (2038) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 5, 2013
375 ml bottle. Hazy dark greyish brown. Very coarse small head. Sherry-like peppery aroma. Low carbonation level. Nice hoppy bite mixed with oak and vanilla. Alcohol is definitely noticeable. The aroma is unbalanced and not particularly good, but flavourwise this beer is still pretty good after three years. 1000 IBU is not what I would first think of when drinking this. It’s not that bitter. I would have guessed 50 IBU. Still, it’s a pretty good beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Yorker (583) - Århus, DENMARK - DEC 24, 2012
Corked 37.5 cl bottle @ home. Pours dark brown with some sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma is peat, subtle smoke, iodine, and just a hint of hops. Flavour is peat, smoke, and subtle hops – with a slightly bitter finish. A strange and original beer that is far from the regular 1000 IBU.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SirLimpsalot (1611) - SWEDEN - NOV 7, 2012
@ Mikkeller Bar: Fantastisk stor fatdoft, mycket god smak av kola och fat, nästan ingen humle(!) men tydlig whiskeysmak. mycket len och fin
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 gyllenbock (2967) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 5, 2012
Bottle at Mikkeller Bar, November 2012.
A bit hazy dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma and taste of licorice, whisky, chocolate, some earth and fruit. Smooth mouth feel. A tasty one with a bitter finish.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lowenbrau (1000) - Asturias, Oviedo, SPAIN - OCT 17, 2012
Bottle. Nice dark amber colour, with persistent tan head, creamy. Medium body, average to low carbonation. Aggresive bitternes, matured and balanced, but enjoyable.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 garza (560) - Oslo (NO), Caracas (VE), VENEZUELA - SEP 27, 2012
Pours a dark brown colour with a beige faint head. Aroma full of caramel, raw sugar, maybe honey and some fruity notes. Complex flavour with wood notes, vanilla, spices and a hint of fresh berries. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Full body, sticky mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a dry bitter finish. Excelent brew, but I’m missing all the IBU’s here. I was expecting more bitterness. Still very good and special choice.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 daje (1291) - NORWAY - SEP 4, 2012
Bottle shared at beer tasting. Dark brown, big beige head. Aroma of pine, citrus and caramel. Taste is sweet with lots of caramel, some wood, and hops. Neither as good or as hoppy as the regular edition I think. The probably high bitterness is camouflaged by the heavy amounts of sweetness.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Spiesy (2338) - Sydney, Greater London, AUSTRALIA - SEP 3, 2012
At a beer festival in Melbourne, Aus. Deep amber body with a fine beige head. Powerful aroma that lept from the glass. Seriously bitter....aggressively so. The length of flavour is impressive with many variants along the way. Lovely and challenging all at the same time.
