This is a super IPA, very hoppy and bitter and a bit of fruit. Not as bitter as I had been expecting. Interesting, but not exactly enjoyable.

Draught at Brouwerij lane. Aroma is surprisingly light but is deep intense ripe grapefruit and hop acids on top of some caramel sweetness. The flavor is bracingly bitter, vegetal, acidic, spicy. Very little sweetness gets through like the sweetness in a lemon or grapefruit only. The feel is thick dense mouthwatering and dry mouth at the same time. good as a experiment or statement but not really enjoyable.

Bottle. Hazy orange color with a huge foamy off-white head. Malty aroma with orange, grapefruit and pine. Flavor is quite sweet with caramel malt, orange, grapefruit, pine and bitterness. Medium to full body, aftertaste is sweet and bitter. Not as bitter as I expected, a bit of a letdown.

Tap in Pudel. Light brown, orange. Thick white head. Taste is as the name says - really strong hop bitterness. Can’t drink too many of those, but for the last beer of night really perfect.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours orange brown with a short off-white head. Big grapefruit aroma, citrus fruits and pine. Upfront bitterness, wasn’t as huge as I expected, very drinkable. Citrus hop flavours with a light roasty malt. Bitterness definitely accumulated over the sitting, but was never too harsh or offensive. Slight booziness in the finish, big IIPA!

Brother Jeff, a not so respectable monk, made me by this. Grapefruit and linen. Very fresh with some random fruit in the background. Has the super drying and flavor of a fresh, underripe grapefruit, possibly after you’ve brushed your teeth. Still taste some malt, not balanced, but helpful. Loved it, but understand that this could be difficult to palate.

Tap at Oblivion. Pours a light brown with a thick off white head. Medium malt body with hints of caramel, but really tongue destroying hop bitterness is what comes through. Pungent and vegetal, needs to be sipped. The aroma is big and hoppy, but no where near the assault that the taste brings. Lots of residual hops on the tongue. A real brute. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Mikkeller 1000 IBU is somewhat a novelty beer that might have contributed to its overrating. Pours dark and murky looking almost like a juice with a thin head. Aroma is light and somewhat fruity. Initial taste is reminiscent of prune juice followed by an intense bitterness. Taking another sip makes the bitterness go away, but it quickly reappears. I get the high IBU thing, but I don’t believe the more bitter an IPA is, the better (even a double IPA). I’ve had IPAs and double IPAs that were complex and flavorful more than bitter which is what I consider an outstanding specimen of the IPA style. 1000 IBU is something more like a high scoville hot sauce -- something to impress others that you did it, but not something you want to have on a regular basis.
