Bottle. Gift from Neko-chan. Hop cream cone, big underlay of citrus and juicy malt. Copper color, many streams of very slowly rising carbonation, thick creamy head, and fat clumpy lace. Tongue shock hops in initial; in mid the hops continue biting, maybe some pepper notes, too; final is a semi-truck load of bitterness. Medium-heavy body, and that may be partially from the hop texture. No IBU listed, but 19 separate hop varieties. And the point being .... what exactly? It’s interesting, a novelty, quite harsh.

Small bottle. Cloudy orange body, medium head. Aroma has... well, hops. Mostly the piney and resiny kind that Mikkeller seems to prefer. Taste is also a bit too dry and resiny. I don’t really understand the use of all these fancy fruity/floral hop varietals in a small amount when its all overridden by Simcoe’s robust pine resin taste as the main component. It’s not a bad IPA but the concept of mixing 19 different hops doesn’t deliver in these proportions.

suurjuust (605) - ESTONIA - DEC 31, 2012
Hazy orange amber, fluffy white head with good retention. Nose is caramel, malt, grapefruit, orange. Taste begins with big malt and caramel and ends with a spicy, hoppy, bitter, and dry tropical fruity explosion. Long, bitter aftertaste with caramel notes. Medium body, oily texture, soft (but prickly) carbonation. Great IPA.

A perfect IPA. From the nose to the malt balance to the hoppy but refined finished, Mikkeller 19 hits the nail on the head. Pours a pretty cloudy orange with a thick rocky white head that leaves swaths of sticky Belgian lace. Aroma is a healthy mix of orange, grapefruit, mint, pine and caramel. Bright and pungent. While amply bitter, 19 has enough malt umph to keep this IPA on the more balanced side. Ends on a fruity fade with a small amount of malt sweetness. Very very well done.

1L Squealer. Murky amber pours a medium head. Smell...loads of hops on the floral end, hints of citrus fruit. It is luscious and creamy and tastes of a hop bonanza, some caramel and a malty finish.

neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 23, 2012
On tap at the Trappist in Oakland, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy reddish-amber with a tall tan head that fades slowly but leaves a moderate amount of lace. On the nose, there are hoppy notes of pine, grapefruit and citrus, along with caramel malts and candi sugar. The flavour is very well balanced between candi sugar and caramel on one hand, and a complex hoppiness on the other. There is a huge fruty, citric quality, with resin and some pine. The finish is long and hoppy. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, milky texture and softish carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice IPA; very complex, a successful experiment. 2012-02-18

toffeeslot (116) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - DEC 13, 2012
Great aroma - lots of tropical fruit. Big head, nice colour. Taste is initially sweet, pineapples, mango and some citrus. Then the big hitting hops take over and the finish is long and bitter. Reminds me a bit of Punk IPA - but more bitter in the finish. Very nice beer.

Aroma is citrus and bready malts. The flavor is citrus, tropical fruit, kiwi/lime and a tart/sour finish. Hop profile was definitely all over the place but an interesting IPA.
