Commercial Description:
Brewed by Mikkeller at De Proef Brouwerij, Lochristi-Hijfte, Belgium.

The strongest beer in Scandinavia. This imperial stout is the craziest, wildest, strongest beer from Mikkeller to this date. Not for sissies.......! Sample it fresh or store it for many many years to come!
Ingredients : Water, malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade, ale yeast and champagne yeast.

Bottle. Completely black with an uneven brown froth. Vanilla, chocolate and hints of coffee in the nose. Alcoholic, too. Complex flavours, strongly alcoholic, vanilla is dominant together with chocolate and that touch of roast. Full-bodied and smooth. One of a kind, but one bottle is enough. A bit too alcoholic in my opinion.

Sampled at EBF2008. Pours a pitchblack beer with a chocolatebrown head. The aromna is soft roasted malts, coffee, licorice and notes of alcohol. The flavor is alcohol and roasted malts. The mouthfeel is bold and sharp from the alcohol. Overall this beer has a nice aroma, but in the flavor and the mouthfeel the alcohol is a bit overpowering.

Sweet light chocolate or coffee aroma. Sweet body with a light alcohol note. Sweet coffee palate with a nice alcohol warmth. Very nice.

This beer was not nearly as good as I expected. It poured with a black body topped by a thin to medium thick head with a little lacing left on the glass. This beer hits every part of the tongue, but, I think that’s what I don’t like about it. It starts out sweet and fruity then it gets bitter and hoppy then it’s salty and peppery and it’s al mixed with strong alcohol notes. Full bodied, dry and hot.

Bottle. Wow this beer has some punch. Pours a pitch black mystery to revel a green bottle (why would you but a beer this thick and black in a green bottle?!). Oak flavors fill the nose. Tastes like you are drinking BBQ sauce, the most delicious BBQ sauce you’ve ever had but BBQ sauce none the less. Doesn’t taste that strong on the tougue but it hits you half way down and leaves lingering burn. Perhaps better with age but worth the try. If not for the price tag it would be fabulous to cook with!

Draught@Pegasus, Copenhagen Appearance: Black, almost no head. Aroma: Cocoa, Molasses, Alcohol, Ripe fruit. Flavor: Licorice, Chocolate, Ash, Alcohol, Vanilla, Dark caramel. Palate: Thick and very sweet with low carbonation. A sipper for sure! For a beer this strength, this is quite interesting. I found it to be quite pleasing to sip away at during an hour or so. Could use some aging tho. Worth a try!

Damn...I mean...DAMN!!! This beer pours liquid coal with a nice tightly packed milk chocolate colored head. Surprisingly, the head stuck around a while, left lacing, and stained the glass. Visually stunning. The aroma is unsweetened cocoa, dark roasted coffee, and malt. Much more pleasant on the nose than on the tongue!!! This one sent chills...alcohol is HOT at first. Interestingly though, after you get acclimated to the burn, the underlying flavors are quite pleasant. I actually found the bite to be less overwhelming than with Dark Horizon 1st Ed. Sip this one...and don’t bite down, you might chip a tooth it’s so thick. Worth a try definitely.

Bottle. Fantastic nose. Large creamy dark lasting head with good lacing. Hazy black, black body. Heavy aroma of chocolate, coffee, roasted and toasted malt and liquorice. Harsh hop aroma, heavy in alcohol. It has a good mouth feel, a full body, sticky texture and a bitter finish. The flavor has a very long duration and is heavy sweet and heavy bitter - to bitter if you ask me :-) A good beer for a long night in the sofa - it took me more than 2 hours to drink the beer.
