Bottle (375ml). Pitch black colour. Inch-thick dark beige head, good retention, settles as a thick bubbly ring with some sticky lacing. Oily, sugar syrupy swirl. Intensely sweet aroma with roasted malt, molasses, cognac, coffee (’French coffee’?), dark chocolate, licorice. Full body, soft carbonation, oily/syrupy mouthfeel. Very sweet cognac-malty taste, balanced by a solid woody bitterness and a mild acidity. Finishes on a drier note with a hint of cardboard. Long bitter-sweet boozy aftertaste.

Thanks to jdubfl for the share on this one. Cheers, Justin! Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, some peaty earthiness, some cognac, and some sweetness along with a quality that seemed like barrel char. Flavor follows with roasted malts, some chocolate, some espresso, and some cognac with bits of booziness, earthiness, and peatiness. No inkling that this one is 17.5% ABV. Outstanding stout, very enjoyable.

Head: dark espresso, small
Colour: Black
Smell: sweet, lots of vanilla essence, booze
Taste: start is very sweet with notes of gluhwein and tanines of red wine barrels, lots of fruits as well such as cherrys and raspberrys, then comes a wonderfull slight roasty flavour along with a bit of coffee and reduced port wine, texture is on the oily side, and the end is not boozey ( what i actually expected ) a bit flat, and lots of candy sirup, this would work great for desert or as a sweet stout actually !

UPDATED: DEC 2, 2012 Pours a Black opaque colour with nice big light brown head leaving a nice lace up the majority of the glass. Aromas of oak, chocolate, cognac, roasted malt, licorice, vanilla, brown sugar. Flavours are rich and consists of a nice sweetness across the board, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, licorice, alcohol is present but for a 17.5abv I would have never guessed.

Pours pitch black with a frothy dark brown head that leaves a lot of stick lace. Aroma is cognac and wood up front with some alcohol and smoke on the end. Taste is a sweet vanilla caramel up front that transitions into a very smooth warming that has lightly bitter and smooth oaky chocolate malts on the finish. Amazing barrel aged imperial.

375ml green bottle. Black pour, viscous. Fat light brown head, quite creamy and thick. Good lace rings in the glass. Nose has big fudge and chocolate, also has some thick alcohol. Taste has big fudge and chocolate, very rich, some smooth hot booziness. Finish has a bit of an alcohol bite, but nicely rounded (this is over 2 years old at this point). Overall super rich and smooth, not getting much wood anywhere but the cognac/booziness blends into the super big impy stout very well. Huge bodied, thick, mouth coating, creamy, the carbonation is slight. Insanely drinkable for a 17%+ beer. Aged well, sweet, rich, but very smooth.

Bottle shared by esp0r at our #1000 rate session. Pitch black body, no surprise there, with a small vanishing tanned head. Aroma is sweet with alcohol, malty, cognac, bubble gum, soy sauce. Taste of roasted malt, cognac, vanilla, mocca, slightly woody taste too. Thick body and of course a low carbonation. Sweet hoppy and roasty aftertaste. Another good Black version, though I have to admit I’m possibly not man enough for some of these heavy ones.

375mL bottle, pours jet black with a surprisingly huge medium brown head. Nose is full of cognac liqueur, lots of sweet caramel malts and little alcohol - very rich. Flavour is intensely sweet, with loads of the cognac barrels coming through, making this even more complex than the base beer. Lots of roasted characteristics come through alongside the intense liqueur. The alcohol is very obvious, but in no way detracts from the complexity or enjoyability. Incredibly thick, full-bodied, almost sickly sweet palate, made all the more sweet by the cognac barrels. On the one hand, a big sweet boozy barrel bomb, but on the other hand, a well-crafted, delightful treat. Excellent.

Bottle shared at the daje & esp0r hits #1000 rates sessions
pours pitch black with a nice tanned head that falls down to laces quite fast. Smells of booze, more spesificly cognac, not much else really. Taste is heavy heavy heavy sweet, roasted malts, sweet cognac, some oak. Moderate bitter, quite eathy. Alot of similarities with a port; abouth the same texture, same alcohol strength and the impossibility to drink much of it. This beer is an interesting beer experiment, but i like to drink a bottle alone or with 1 other person. With this one a 375mm bottle easily is shared by 4 or 5 without anybody shouts for more
