Bottle, shared by Meilby. Looking like expected in the glass, a pitch black body is topped by a quite small, tan head. Rather oily pour. Soy sauce, licorice, roasted and burnt malts and notes of bonfire in the aroma. Intense, probably too heavy, but gorgeous. That goes for the flavor too, with less impact from the Islay barrels than I expected. The finish didn’t go away until the next beer was tasted, and was quite roasted and licorice-ish. A lovely one, even though I normally prefer other kinds of whisky barrels to be used, I have to say this was the right thing to do. It’s probably a bit intense to drink on your own, but share a bottle with a good friend, and you have something to talk about for a long time. 110114

Bottle # 1 at Bills big vertical tasting. Pours a rich dark brown. Lots of peaty, Islay scotch aromas. Waifs of wood, leather, malts and smokey malt. Taste is filled with Lagavulin / Ardbeg - style flavors. Creamy and balanced stout with a complexity I really liked. Loaded with smoke and roasted malts, Sticky finish. Wow. Great stuff if you are a scotch lover like me.

Bottle obtained from xocoatl. Pours deep black, hint of ruby, small caramel head. Aroma is super sweet, hint of peaty scotch. Taste is highly unique, super sweet, raisiny, and finished with a mild peaty, scotch flavour. Could be the most unique, awesome beer I’ve ever had!

Thanks to yespr for that one! Bottle looks great, very much like the regular Black. Beer in the glass deep black, a bit oily, no head. Heavy malty aroma, quite alcoholic. Starts very, very strong, for a short moment quite sweet, then intense malty-earthy, burning, with bitter notes of strong coffee. Again some sweet notes in the finish, dry malty, warming-alcoholic, also some woody notes. A bit too unbalanced for me.

375 ml green bottle (no blue wax, but clearly labeled Islay Edition), courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 17.5%. Pitch black colour, minimal brown head. Strong aroma of smoke, tar, salt water, iodine and roasted barley. Extremely sweet and roasty flavour with notes of peat smoke and molasses. Too extreme for me.

Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of peat smoke, iodine, wood, roastiness and light bitter chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry warming finish. Flavors of peat smoke, iodine, fruittiness and dark chocolate with a smooth dry warming lingering peat smoke finish.

Bottle at Lompa. As the name says - it’s black, accompanied by a small brown head. Roasty aroma with hint of smoked whisky, wood, coffee and of course alcohol. The aroma is really intense and reminds me most of a camping fire! Taste of whisky, spices, sugar, coffee, vanilla and some fruit. Dry bitter finish. Easily the best 15+abv I’ve had

Thick oily black with nothing for a cap just a few sad small bubbles floating on top. Aroma is so very smoky and sweet, the peaty scotch really comes through. Is that raspberry I smell??? Can’t be. I can’t believe that at 17.5% I can only smell a hint of alcohol. So very sweet with a intense smoke. Just like the aroma the alcohol is almost completely hidden but wow is my stomach ever warming up. Flavor is just a big peaty, burnt brown sugar, smoke bomb with hints of berry. This flavor is so thick you can chew it. Way too sweet to drink often but it’s great to sip on during a cold winter night while knitting socks for your kitten.
