20100515 Sampled at PilsnerPeterís 2nd Annual Spring Gathering. Black. Unctuous. Huge smoke aroma, tons more smoke on front of palate. Itís nice smoke, almost juicy. Pretty sweet roasted malts. Unfortunately lingering alcohol heat. Loved this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is last of the four BA Black Holes for me, so I may do a bit of comparing to the others.
The pour is generally the same of the others - pitch black with a thick creamy tan head that recedes slowly to a thick cap and leaves excellent lacing.
The aroma has the biggest barrel character of any of the treatments. Itís got a ton of peat and smoke from the Scotch and some boozy burn in the nose. The underlying black malts, coffee and cocoa powder is there but much more understated than in than the other versions.
Much like the aroma, the Scotch is the dominant characteristic in the taste. Huge peaty presence up front and the finish is like sipping a Scotch. There is a heavily roasted malt backbone and I think I can get the chocolate and dark fruits, but itís tough because the Scotch is overwhelming.
The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied and feels slicker than the other ones. Obviously, the barrel character is massive in the finish.
I think this might be my least favorite of the treatments as the Scotch is really overwhelming. Still good, but I prefer the other 3 versions which seem to have the barrel more integrated.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark black pour with a small creamy top. Aroma of deeply roasted malt, coffee, ash and peet. Flavor is sweet and bitter, with more peet coming through than you might expect, along with salt and rubber. Big, bold and tasty, but kind of falls apart at the end.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle Jet black color, aroma is full of alcohol, molasses and malts. Some dark, ripe fruits and some peaty influences. Really intense alcohol burning after swallowing. Pretty decent barley wine. Surely this delivered a knockout blow. Heavy alcoholic, great sipper.
